G'day you blokes, nice to see some fine shootin rifle guns here. I have not been on the forum for a ver long time, it seemed to be cross cattywize not sure. I have been a black powder shooter since 1972 or 3 there abouts, have a number of lovely custom rifles and some nice antiques. Have not been hunting in a fair while due to lack of opportunity, but still forked end down, so there is still hope. We have a couple of ver good black powder clubs in Western Australia, in fact there are clubs in all states.
Cheers

I got a few to add.!
More of a hunter than shooter, but its been a few years since I've had the ol' Smoke Poles, out.
We have a Ruger 77/50 all weather, in-line, with laminate stock. A sabot slinging machine.
A CVA, 36 CAL a kit I received from a friend. Decided to do it in camo instead of finishing the stock, and blueing the barrel. A squirrel sniper, from hell.! Using Conicals.
And last would be my Italian made, 50 cal. Hawkens, plains rifle, for Charles Daily. A dream to shoot, or hunt with. Super lite hair trigger, and ungodly accurate for iron sites. I blackened all the brass, just for hunting purposes.
My farthest kill with it, was a ground hog at 140 yards.
80 grains fff black powder, 370 grain maxi ball lubed with bore butter.
Yes, I mold my own bullets.

Not a Black powder shooter or owner myself, although I have fired one once, great fun.

I see you also use bore butter. I have used bore butter for the past 20 years and discovered if you stay away from petroleum based lubes and season your gun with bore butter (like you would an iron skillet) you don't get the fouling like you get with petroleum based lubes. I have been able to fire from 8 - 10 rounds without having to run a cleaning patch down the bore, most times the last shot loads as easily as the first.
When I first started I used petroleum based lubes and could only get 3 shots max before having to run a cleaning patch down the bore. From what I have read from other black powder shooters using anything natural will work as a lube. Apparently our forefathers used whale oil, bear grease or other natural materials as a lube, it was when we started using petroleum based products as a lube that the bad fouling started. I only use oil to lube the lock and trigger assembly."If You Knew Half of What I Forgot You Would Be An Idiot" - by DoughBoy68

Thanked: 3223Haven't shot BP in many years but when I did back then I used Crisco for lube. Seemed to work just fine. Lard was also used here back then.

Yep, bore butter is the best for me.
And about the same 8-10 rounds before a miss fire.
I've gotten as many as 18, from the 36 calMike
