Nation of California: Secession to be put on future ballot measure for voting?
I just saw that California may actually be voting on secession.
Many may say "good riddance". I could see a few problems:
I would assume it would be impossible to build walls to border in the state.
Without a significant new revenue stream to replace whatever federal funds California gets now in all its forms, it would most likely turn into Venezuela Jr. Where would it get that revenue stream? After the implementation of a $15/hr minimum wage, apparently that was the nail in the coffin of many Bay Area restaurants which are going out of business at a rapid pace with residents scratching their head as to why.
Perhaps it would partner with Cuba, China, Iran, "Palestine", etc to allow for missiles to be placed on its soil pointing at the rest of the U.S. Let China build a military base, naval base, etc on California soil? Lucrative rent/revenue I would imagine.
Maybe California would agree to be annexed by Mexico furthering the drug cartel controlled land areas
Or....maybe the measure would go nowhere."Blues fallin' down like hail." Robert Johnson

Actually it would be the California Republic. And most of us in Northern California would prefer splitting off from Southern California. : )

Thanked: 3215Don’t know about succession, but this may be enough to split California, some say into 4 different states.
Doubt either will happen, but I do think some changes are coming. The political pendulum swings and when it goes too far one way, it goes just as far or more the other way.
All of California is not represented by the knot heads you see on TV. Sometime it just takes a while to wake some folks up.
Personally, I think federal cuts, will be good for California.

This was attempted in the past by South Carolina and 12 other states. Led to more casualties than all the wars the USA fought in up until the middle of Viet Nam put together. I don't think it will be more than ' a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing,' but I might end up being surprised.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

There was just an article in a Canadian newspaper wondering where all the big California celebs that said they were moving to Canada when we can expect them?
Madonna, Miley, Jon Stwewart, etc,..speculation was that this would be a richer bunch than we got during the Vietnam era, but the article concluded by saying that you should keep Al Sharpton...no one wants him, and his hair products would violate our environmental laws.
The CBC would love to get a lot of this Hollywood talent...people may actually watch its programs again. George Clooney doing Heritage Canada Wildlife spots..."The ruffled field Grouse can be found in the Prairies...." :-)

If it did gain steam, I hope the best for all of you level headed Californians. You may be out voted.
I took a lunchtime walk and thought about this a bit more.
IF CA did actually secede it could be a solution to the illegal immigration problem the U.S. has. I'm being serious here. I would guess CA would, as a matter of principle, welcome any and all illegals located across the U.S. and the U.S. could then deport all illegals to CA, millions of them. Problem largely solved?
The concern I'd have for CA given they would have no military is their vulnerability. If for example, CA allowed China to build some bases it would be easier than scratching your nose for China to end up taking over California. Crazy thought?"Blues fallin' down like hail." Robert Johnson

In the interest of balance, have there not been in recent years similar calls for secession ballot measures (or equivalent) put forth in other states by folks from the opposite side of the political fence?
No part of the political spectrum has a monopoly on knee-jerk and/or short-sighted 'solutions' to whatever is seen at a particular moment as the problem.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 734Sure, immigrants from Mexico and S.A. could flock to CA. But there would be few of the social services that they depend on the Federal Government to provide. With what I assume would be a high minimum wage (the left loves that) and a glut of labor, you'd expect a lot of unemployment and few social services. And of course that would decimate the democratic party in the the rest of the US because imagine the next presidential election without all of those electoral votes going the democratic party. The left themselves would never allow that to happen. It would be an interesting scenario though. Perhaps there is a good book or movie in it.

Thanked: 3215So, that explains why in some cities in So Cal, all the signage in Chinese. A nefarious Plot?
Here in California the issuing of driver’s licenses was an obvious practice of endorsing, if not encouraging, illegal voting by non-citizens.
It would be very interesting to see the results of a real investigation, on just who voted in California, during the last election.
Standing in line to vote, a guy was bragging about how he had just driven up from Mexico to vote, and that he was returning, immediately after voting.
