So doesn't the government represent the majority? but you don't trust the majority of people?

This doesn't seem to square with trusting the government that rises out of the majority.

I really appreciate this thread --- thanks Mark ---- I think it shows how we can have a political discussion without pointing out and scrutinizing individual countries.

Bruno, thanks for your contributions --- as you seem to be the only person from Europe (the mainland) who contributes regularly and gives the European's perspective.

    But anyway good discussion.

Ah well I don't trust politicians too much either.
But we have a multiparty system, and the power to strip the politicians of theirs.
and from time to time if a political party starts to do things that turn out bad, that happens.

So at least they have to do their job reasonably well or they are out.
A multiparty system (at least ours in Belgium) turns out fairly balanced because there are 4 big parties and several smaller that are important when it comes to forming a majority coalition.

    Well thank you!!
I am glad we are talking about ideas and principles instead of pointing our bony fingers at each others governments and people!
I hope this thread continues in this fashion. It is, by the way, a great example of self government and self regulation!

Yup I appreciate to learn what others think and why.

Out of curiosity: you are both americans. what would you take away from your government and put back into the hand of each individual american, and would the result be a government that is signifficantly smaller than the current one?

Now don't get specific on me Bruno --- I've been talking in platitudes --- I'll have to give that one a good think.

I would get rid of the civil court system and reinstate pistols at twenty paces!
It's a deep question Bruno, and like Justin said, I have to think on it!!
