Thanked: 1081Indeed but the title of the thread should give some indication of the content.
Although a shaving forum there are many topics other than shaving, just look at the threads on politics, they can get heated very quickly and some members get upset, you cant change peoples opinions so in these instances just dont read them. I daresay there is recovering alcoholic members but we have beer of the day so do you stop all topics not related to shaving?

Thanked: 59We are humans. In order for us to stay alive, we have to eat things that were once themselves alive. Be it animal, fruit, vegetable or grain it was alive and we have to kill in order to survive ourselves. Deciding what is worth killing in order to support human life is a moral judgement and we will not all agree on the same answer.
What is more responsible, buying meat from a mass production facility that may treat the animals inhumanly and pollute the environment, or killing only what you need when you need it and processing it yourself? As has already been pointed out, there is a cost or consequence to every item we eat. Even growing grain takes land that could otherwise be used to support wildlife. The processing, packaging and transportation of the grain takes an even greater toll on life and resources. Just because we don't know or see that cost when we buy food at a store, does not mean that it isn't there.
I have chosen to take the path of knowing and being responsible for the consequences of my food as much as I can. While I agree that many people kill animals for the wrong reasons, to say that everyone who hunts for their own food is "penile challenged that feel the need to kill animals to prove themselves" is an overly broad statement. That would be the same as me saying that everyone who buys their food at the store is an ignorant hypocrite. While there are ignorant hypocrites out there, most people are simply trying to provide food for themselves and their family in the best way they know how.
Recognize the fact that in order to sustain our own lives, we will all have an impact on the life and environment around us. Then also recognize the fact that we will not all approach this with the same solution.

Thanked: 61I think easyace's point remains very relevant. And, granted, this is the 'conversation' part of the forum but there should still be some sort of cohesion to a shaving forum. I find it really troubling when shaving becomes conflated with a hyper-masculinized culture that can be straight up toxic. Often it feels like there is an implicit sense that straights are for real men and real men also hunt, smoke cigars, and love guns. Whether one is personally for any of those is kind of beside the point. If you want to talk about hunting and guns and cigars, well, there are forums for those things; why do those discussions need to be brought in to one that is otherwise fairly niche?

Thanked: 3223Most of the shaving forums I have been to also have sub forums on a variety of non shaving topics. In all of them it is a very small part of the actual form. Photography and shooting forums that I have been to have also small parts dedicated to non forum interests.

Well it looks to me that the 'Cancel Culture' may have arrived here at SRP.
Looks like Threads such as: In the Garden, Sausage and Smoke Cooking, The Breakfast Car is Open and many others need to be deleted from this forum as NONE of them has anything to do with shaving, let alone Shaving with Straight Razors.
About raising meat or hunting for meat:
Personally, I grew up in a farming/rural community. We raised and butchered our own chickens, pork and beef. We also hunted then butchered deer, elk, peasants, quail, grouse, mallard ducks etc for our families consumption. There was never any 'Manly Man/Macho' BS about it.
We also always had a garden that we canned and froze the bounty for use later on.
I suppose that anyone opposed to any kind of 'Home Providing' of any kind of meat whether it's domesticated or wild are strict vegetarian OR have no objection to having some large processing plant kill, skin, process and then package whatever cuts of meat they wish to purchase from their local market.
Personally, If I can have a choice: I'll take the home raised, hunted meats over store bought any day.
Now to get back to my smoked chicken soup that I purchased the chicken from a store, then cured and smoked myself and will be for my supper. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
