    Default Guns Guns Guns!!

    Alright, interesting statistics on guns:

    1) since the outlawing of privately owned guns in England in 1997 the amount of gun related crime has doubled in England!

2)America is the most heavily armed population in the world!
The figures are something like for every 100 citizens there are 90 privately owned guns! YEA AMERICA!!

Now i've never owned a gun myself but I've used plenty! I just recently had one of my goats attacked and killed by a coyote! If it weren't for my dog I would've probably been dealing with more than one carcass!
My questions are: what are your takes on the stats I provided, and what gun do you advise to keep coyotes at bay?

I lived on a ranch near Yosemite for many years that had issues with Coyotes... Not much worked on the frigging buggers. That said...

Being naucturnal you will have a hard time seeing them with out good optics, high end scopes or night vision. I hunted the buggers with a T/C contender in .223 with good scope (been so long that I forgot what one it was). I'd wait till early morning to set up a blind and pop the ones that stayed to close to the place.

These guys are crafty and are a worthy hunt, generally just being around will keep them at bay (till you turn your back that is).

I think your stats are a little low.

As for handling Coyotes It depends on where you are, how much land, how long a range etc.

I would say your best bet would be a hunting rifle, if you have the space to make it safe. Anything .223 or better would do for the first couple of hundred yards. You'll need more gun if you can and need to hit one from further out.

Otherwise a scoped rifled shotgun shooting slugs is a good choice.

They can be smart too. I have a friend who had coyotes the would perch on her hay bales about 500 yards from her house, if you went out with a gun they would take off, if you just walked out there they would let you to about 50 yards then move off.

I would suggest a .22 rifle. Sit about a hundred yards from a carcass on a bright night. Thats legal where I am, you might still need a flash light depending on your scope/sight.

A scoped contender or encore in a centerfire .22 can smack them doggies at 500yds easy (with practice that is... ).

Yup, I likes single shot pistolies, nada shoots better for me!!!

There is nothing much that walks that I can't use these one. It all boils down to practice and... oh ya, PRACTICE!!! Even a super cheapie can shoot well if you know your ammo, weapon, and skills to use them. A .22lr can be just as effective as a .223 if you know all about it.

Thank you guys for all the responses! I'm thinking a 22 with a scope is just what I need!
I was hoping I would get a few responses on those statistics though!
