Thanked: 13249I think Rubio's statement yesterday makes it pretty plain
"Trump has tried, he is only going to try for a short time longer, after that he is going to move on to other problems"
Seems Zelensky, doesn't want an end to the war, did I not read this week that they extended the Martial Law in Ukraine for another 6 months meaning that there will be no elections?
Putin is seeing that Trump is no longer an endless piggy bank, he is pushing to have more territory as this winds down..
The only thing I could critique, over the last three years, was the hesitation from Biden and Nato to throw HUGE support in 2022 if the idea was to stop Russia. Biden's remarks about a "Small Incursion" being something we would have to look, at sure didn't help
We could go all the way back to the time of a 16 Country Nato and the promise of "Not one foot East" that was made to Russia..
But that was the past, as is 2014 under Obama when the support was Blankets and MRE's
2017-2018 when Trump sent them Javelins..
These all could be looked at as mistakes
I have very little hope they will stop the bullets now, Zelensky and Putin want to keep fighting, I see a surender soon after Trump stops the $$$ and Supplies."No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

The pen is indeed mightier than the sword but not the pen that writes the newspapers but the pen that writes the checks.
I don't know what Zelenskyy's angle is exactly but he can't or won't account for the money. As tthe adage goes, "follow the money." In addition to that ,the way he behaved at the White House certainly does not resemble the behavior of a man who wants peace, as previously noted.
Throwing around bravado like that to the President and by proxy to the only country in the world that may be able to rescue his people from the ravages of war certainly does not seem like wanting peace to me.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 04-18-2025 at 08:36 PM. Reason: Typos

Wow you must have seen something very different than I. I recall Trump and his crew ambushing Zelensky and pretty much reading him the Trump riot act with Mr Z just kind of sitting there and trying to defend himself. If he only had gotten on his knees and kissed trumps shoes they would be great friends. Of course then there is that idiot Senator criticizing his dress as some kind of affront to our King. What would he have said to Winston Churchill during WWll and all the other world leaders who dress as appropriate to their situations.
As far as disappearing money goes show me any conflict where money goes to the wrong people no matter the political party involved. The claim that all this dough is missing has been debunked many times. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Watch it again. Or maybe you just see what you want to see. Zelensky dressed like a hobo, and YES that is disrespectful to a world leader, THE world leader who can help him and then wants to puff up and point fingers around the room. Did you come to seek help or did you come to have an argumemt and air your grievances? Whatever the case sitting in the presense of media he chose that as an oppurtunity to come across as a military tough guy to the world. Not sure why he felt that was the appropriate time or venue beyond posturing like a thug.
Did Trump and Vance call him out vigorously? Not as vigorously as I would have. I don't know who the hell you think you are but on diplomatic meetings people usually act diplomatically. And "kiss his boot"? Come on man! That's a little thick don't you think? Trump is trying to broker a deal to stop a war not buy a mattress. No wonder his country's in trouble if that's how he deals with people who he is seeking help from.
As far as the money, neither one of us is exactly right. True, there IS an accounting for most of the money, but to call it "debunked" is false also. Where did the idea of missing money come from? From Zelensky himself when he said I didn't get $177B. I only got $75B. Where is the other $100B? That was either grossly neglegent oversight or it was intentionally trying to stir the global pot in the midst of a war where his people are dying in masses like a punk.
Of course I'm sure you have an alternate view. We all see what we want to see don't we? I see a candlestick. You see two faces. At least I'm willing to admit it. Will you?Last edited by PaulFLUS; 04-19-2025 at 03:35 AM.

Don't worry Bob. Once he annexes Canada you can vote against him. Better be careful though. His thought police are watching and listening to every word. Once he invades he'll probably put you in one of his gulags.

Thanked: 3228Do you actually have any idea of what is happening on our side of the border? The relationship between the two countries may never be the same again. Canadians are angry at the US which may mean nothing to you but has consequences to states who have large snowbird influxes every year when they stop showing up to name just one instance. Airlines operating flights from Canada to the US have already eliminated a lot of them and added extra flights to Europe and other destinations in their place. This is where Rumps talk of annexing Canada has gotten the US. There are other things that can and will be done to further weaken ties to the US that will have economic consequences to the average US citizen. We are not the only ones looking at distance themselves from the US by becoming less reliant on it. Europe is actively acting on it. America can do what it wants to itself. I just don't want to see the poison spread any farther than it already has.

Bob I don't think that you or Canada has anything to worry about. This is all political bullshit that will pass very soon. There are those of us here in the US that understand that governments cannot drive a wedge between us. Just hold tight, things will pass on!

Thanked: 3228I do hope you are right, but I think the damage has already been done. Relations between countries are a lot like relations between people. Things are said and/or done that cannot be completely undone and inevitably change that relationship to a greater or lesser extent.

I feel everyone should relax. Certainly talk of annexation and Governor Trudeau is just to get attention to the situation.
Start high and negotiate down. Fair Trade is what it's all about.
The US has been a doormat for the world in that regard for too long from what I have read. Just some level playing field.
If nobody taxed trade, think of the wasted work the world over that would no longer be necessary. Wishful thinking.
Tariffs have always been a means to level the field. Seems the US has looked the other way for far too long.
Anyhoo, has nothing to do with the Ukraine war, JMOLast edited by sharptonn; 04-19-2025 at 09:34 PM.
