Every time an individual is charged with a crime the D/A makes the decision if and how to prosecute. Case law is replete with novel approaches. The fact Trump's prosecution took the turn it did is only material to those looking for a reason to trash the whole thing like you are doing. The salient facts and the ONLY ones that matter are he was indicted by a grand jury and convicted by a jury of his peers. There were numerous places along the way for the whole thing being rejected or thrown out or he be adjudged innocent. That did not happen. It's only a population of MAGA who feel anyone or anything is prima facie evidence of this "Derangement Syndrome". Any reason will do. Democrats involved=proof, Blue State=proof Conspiracy theories=proof

So go ahead and cry your crocodile tears for poor trump being railroaded into a conviction. We all know he is as innocent as the day is long (in the winter at the arctic circle-har har).

As a retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer I have been involved in a few myself. However you keep harping on the same tired old line.
