    Default The Weekend Thread.

We folks at Straight Razor Palace are a very nosey lot. We want to know everyone's business especially on the weekends.

I hope you will all return to this thread at the beginning of the weekend or maybe your weekend (whenever that is) or an extended holiday and let us know about your plans. I'll start.

I have to do some repair work on some cabinets in the kitchen and then there's this model I'm working on of the Starship Enterprise which is a two year job. I also have to do my Income Taxes this weekend.

Now, what are you doing for the weekend?

    I have my Saturday arranged.

The kitchen sink is draining so slow that the other sink starts to fill up within about 10 seconds if I turn the tap on hard, so today I'm under the sink with a 25' snake that goes on my drill.

    I hate that job!

Gotta take the Wife to the grocery store. I have plans for my stepson to come over Sunday and help replace the shocks and struts on the car and I plan on working on the inside of the driver's door Today. And every day I have to do my stretches for my shoulder.

Closing out the first quarter for the business in QuickBooks. Watching the Panthers take a whoopin' from the Devil's. Lightning game tonight. Trying to finish a blade regrind/restoration on an FBU with a lot of hone wear. Church in the morning, nap then grocery shopping with my lovely bride. It's our Sunday routine. Keeping the flame lit. 25 years and still on the honeymoon.

Cor Blimey, I didn't get to snake my pipes yesterday because we had to go out so I started it this morning.

I could only undo one side of the U trap and didn't want to crack the other with my pliers (can't remember what you call them here, big pliers that can slide big or smaller), so I undid the small drain plug on the trap and pushed the snake in through there.

I kept pushing until I couldn't get it further then attached the drill.

Wouldn't you know it, the battery in the drill is dead - whats wrong with me.

I left the snake in and put the drill battery on charge.

Saturday morning: gym, afternoon: out of hours duty doctor. Sunday: swimming with my son. Now I am cooking a tandoori dish with beans and shrimp.

Tapped a large maple tree for the first time and am trying to reduce the sap to proper maple syrup. It’s a supposed to be 40:1 reduction.

We’re getting a pretty good sap run with below freezing at night and fairly comfortable during the day so I put 3 taps on a sugar maple that has about 3 foot diameter.

Won’t do it on the kitchen stove - a neighbour tried that and had to replace the drywall in the ceiling over the stove.

Tried it on Saturday on the propane bbq. 2 gas bottles later I got 1.5 litres of fairly light syrup. That started out as 40 litres of sap. Actually prefer it to the dark stuff which I find overly sweet.

Today I put a deep roasting pan over my large Solo stove and cooked about 30 litres of sap down to 1 litre of syrup. It’s a bit darker than yesterday’s batch, but tastes good.

Sliding lock plyers are called channel lock. But channel lock is a name brand. Still, most folks callthem that.

That is a final product you can certainly enjoy.
First time I tried real maple syrup, I didn't care for it. Next time I tried the lighter amber syrup from a different company. Good stuff!

I grew up hearing Skil Saw, Sawzall, Klein Pliers, Vice Grips, Channel Locks, etc, instead of the proper names.
And Coke could be referring to any soda.
