Steve. Ive done lots of sink traps. The nut that is on the side closet to the wall meaning faryhest away before it goes into the wall turns the opisite direction as the ones on the sink side of the trap.
It sounds like you are dealing with an old metal trap. If I was you Id cut it apart however you can. Leave the pipes that come striaght down from the sinks as until the first nut that is part of the strainer in the sink.
At the wall, you want to leave as much as you can coming out of the wall. Then go to a hardware store and buy a new plastic trap kit. Take pictures and show the guy selling the plumbing stuff. He should be able to help. They make a rubber adaptor that you tighten onto the pipe at the wall. Then add a pipe that comes to the trap. With a disposal and dishwasher its a bit different for each install. Dishwasher goes into disposal normally. Second sink goes into disposal. Then out of disposal to trap.
You Tube it!
I bet you will find all the info you need. But get that old stuff out and buy plastic not chrome.
PM me if you need more help. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 580Sounds like some clever bloke may have used sealant on the thread to "fix" a leak.
Can't you disconnect at sink plug and trap?
All plumbing here is lefty loosie, righty tightly.
If all else fails, do what I do.

A couple of thoughts.
If you have a drain plug on the trap it is a quality one.
The tighter you try to grip and turn a channel lock pliers the tighter you collapse the nut and push on the threads. grip it as far away from the threads as possible.
Use a towel or a second plunger to block the second sink. If you can't do that yourself get your spouse to hold the rag for you. It might make them apredciate your work. If the blockage is past the vent a plunger won't work.

Ok guys another weekend is upon us. No more talk of drains. It reminds me too much of my wallet.
This weekend I need to put a new faucet in the bathroom sink and at age 74 I should win a prize just for crawling under the sink and being able to get up again. For the rest of the weekend I'll probably be in bed.
Oh okay keep talking about drains. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I just posted a bit more work I did to the car yesterday but that isn't the weekend so...
Today I will replace some rear brakes. Drum brakes so I'm replacing Brake shoes. I did this kind of work in a shop as a kid before I got my Drivers licence so it will be a piece of cake. I will replace lugnuts and scrub the wheels too.
The wife was having a nervous breakdown or close to it because of her stupid son. The one I traded cars with. I won't go into it but she had to get away from him and quit raising his daughter for him while he screwed off. I told her that being in her late 60s she needs to enjoy some life and not raise kids! So I sent her to CA to visit family and getaway. Doing everything in the house on my own with one hand and arm has been rough but I will live.
The fun never ends! It's just Sharpening, right?

I’m leaving in a few hours to GO FISHING, at Reelfoot lake, the king of crappie! Whole week nothing but drinking and catching fish.

Good luck with the fishing but it sounds like you don't need it!
My Crappie fishing trip up here in the north is about a month away. They have lowered the limit to 10 but if we eat them every day I will be happy.
My good buddy deep fries them along with potatoes, onions and many other things.
I get my deep fried food fix for the next year!
