I just realised it's 20 years since I fished freshwater
Living near the coast now I fish the surf & tidal creeks as often as possible.
Got these 2 bottom bouncing a 40 gram jig in the surf with the hook reversed from head to tail.
Flathead was 55cm, a coupla inches shy of 2 feet. The tailor ( bluefish ) didn't measure.

Sounds cool. I know nothing about that style of fishing.

Don't know about the flatty, but I know them blues is good to eat. Did a bit of surf fishin, too. Not that I liked it, it was all I had to do while stranded on an island off the coast of NC. Parents had a beach house on Ocean Isle Beach, I was too young to be left at home, alone.

But I remember that big ol long whippy rod, big weights n spoons, blood worms, cut bait, the damn sand fleas, and the second degree sunburn to the back of my legs, after facing the sun all day, and keeping in mind I'm no longer on the top of the food chain while standing jewels deep in the ocean.

I guess it's just another level of the water column to explore rather than burning a lure on the surface.

Mike , Flathead is great eatin'. Tailor are pretty ordinary by comparison. It was 10ºC that morning no risk of sunburn that day

For sure. Fished the river here at Tathra a few nights ago. The three flatties I caught were all well over 60cm so returned 'em. All were very well fed and heavy. Great fun on light braid.

Awesome. How heavy a leader do you use. I got snipped on the take with 6lb. Went to 20lb but I know guys use 10 or 12lb.

I'm using 12lb which is a bit risky with flathead.
