I just realised it's 20 years since I fished freshwater
Living near the coast now I fish the surf & tidal creeks as often as possible.
Got these 2 bottom bouncing a 40 gram jig in the surf with the hook reversed from head to tail.
Flathead was 55cm, a coupla inches shy of 2 feet. The tailor ( bluefish ) didn't measure. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Sounds cool. I know nothing about that style of fishing.

Don't know about the flatty, but I know them blues is good to eat. Did a bit of surf fishin, too. Not that I liked it, it was all I had to do while stranded on an island off the coast of NC. Parents had a beach house on Ocean Isle Beach, I was too young to be left at home, alone.
But I remember that big ol long whippy rod, big weights n spoons, blood worms, cut bait, the damn sand fleas, and the second degree sunburn to the back of my legs, after facing the sun all day, and keeping in mind I'm no longer on the top of the food chain while standing jewels deep in the ocean.Mike

I guess it's just another level of the water column to explore rather than burning a lure on the surface.
Cheers Mick. Been an ok season for them..I think?
Mike , Flathead is great eatin'. Tailor are pretty ordinary by comparison. It was 10ºC that morning no risk of sunburn that dayThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
