Actually over time they became overly decedent and rotted from within. Thats why I mentioned the water empire model. Even at its most decedent it required an invasion from without to topple it. If we went global with our governmental system and used that model of population subjugation there would be no enemy's outside the state to give it a push after its inevitable decline. At least not until the Vulcans reveal themselves and escort use into the greater intergalactic community.

There's something similar to that brewing, granted their adoption of a state religion is still in it's infancy, only a couple of months old. I only used it as an example of a country that has a national religion that we negotiate with.
I believe the main question we're supposedly arguing is whether or not we should be open to negotiation with Iran. and I've yet to see a credible argument as to why we should not. Especially in light of the ayatollah's recent actions that seem to be supporting a more open position in coming to an agreement with the west.

Wildtim- the only reason I asked about those empires is because I knew they fell and why. If we eliminate the competition we too will become just as arrogant, lazy, self righteous and decadent as those other empires and we too will fall. As for exporting democracy, in some cultures it will not work. The reason it works in America is that we had almost 200 years to establish and develop ourselves befor the declaration of independence was signed and then it was still an iffy deal.(Redcoats, Tories, infighting ,economics and all that)

the sanctions that the un decided weren't strong enough to act on you mean? Or do you mean the ones that were a result of fals intelligence that came about from a report formed by the state department in an effort to ignore the NIE? Frontline did a great report on the known and unknowns during the leadup to the war, I suggest everybody check it out. frontline: the war behind closed doors: view the full program online | PBS
Honestly I doubt anybody will watch this video, but it really shows a mor eobjective view that we see from any other side.

We did not go in alone, so I assume that I mean the sanctions that the UN decided were strong enough! And about the false intelligence, Do you mean the intelligence that all Nations involved had, Or were they not smart enough to do their own research and relied on our "purposefully misleading" intelligence?

Basically they trusted us, and we breached that trust.

Great Nations do not become great by depending on the honesty of other Nations!
Each Nation that wishes to survive has it's own intelligence agency and will check and double check every scrap of information that they see and receive! Even our Nations so called friends spy on us! Nothing is left to chance!

If only the current UN had held to that ideal.
