Best Advice you have ever received
I was wondering what was the best functional advice you all have received. I am not talking about broad philosophic statements or theological ponders. I am talking about daily functional advice.
Mine, for example:
"Always look over your shoulder when changing lanes."
I cannot count the times that I have seen people in the blind spot this way.

The best EVER? That's tough... It's hard to say that one piece of advice is the best I've ever gotten. How about I list some that are really really good?
CYA- cover your ass, you never know when someone/something is going to bite it.- One of my first supervisors told me this and it has served me well.
[In regard to motorcycles] If anything bad starts to happen, just give it more throttle.- My dad told me this one a long time ago and has almost always bailed me out of a bad situation. It has to do mostly with gyroscopic properties
Don't work so hard you make yourself irreplaceable- they'll never promote you.- My Grandpa
Just ask- the worst they can say is no.- My mom

Thanked: 12recently?
2 pieces stuck:
1. Professionals act as they must, not as they feel.
2. Every time is opening night/All of life is an audition
Overall:
It's not what you think you are, what you think you are.
If you go out to lunch with someone who motivates you, buy them lunch often.

Thanked: 22A lot of advice has been good and I cannot pick just one as the best, however the advice I got years ago when first starting out was:
"Its better to go slow and get it right the first time, than to go fast f**k it up and have to start again"
I still struggle with this on occasion as I am a very impatient person. Not by choice either BTW.

in regard to business, office politics, etc, i have found the following advice to be invaluable.
1. an eagle soars, but a weasel never gets sucked into a jet intake.
2. never trust anyone further than you could throw them. especially the skinny ones.
3. greed is good.
4. make an example of bullies. the messier the better.
5. never EVER tell someone how long a project is going to take. tell them it will take 3 times that long, 5 if you can get away with it.
