My father has recently taken ill and may lose his sight in one eye if corrective surgery isnt done quickly.

No amount of love for him will fix his eye. No amount of time will make it magically better.

Perhaps I should rethink my vote....

    Good Health

If you do not have your health, you are unable to enjoy any of life's blessings. Time becomes something to be endured rather than cherished. Although pain meds can be mildly amusing. What is power but an illusion of control over that which is ultimately untameable & unknowable. You can find love in many places, if you keep your eyes, ears & heart open. Granted, it's finer expressions require a little more work. Children are its highest donors & recipients IMHO

My reasons are simple, my health is not good & it affects all aspects of my life. If a higher power were able to help, it would be the greatest gift imaginable.

I find that to be a very sad sentiment Spike. When your time on earth is nearly through and you were offered one more day of poor health to allow you to do something eg. see your kids one last time, would you 'edure' that?

Sad? Maybe. True? Definitely. When my innings come to their close, I hope that I will have told everyone about whom I care how much they mean to me. If I have not, that is my mistake.

Your perspective changes markedly when you go to sleep each night not knowing when where or if you will awake come morning. I looked after a couple of friends through terminal illnesses. When the time came they were glad, if not begging, to go onwards. I firmly believe in an afterlife, for what it is worth. But that does not mean I want this life to be over any sooner. There are experiences to have & songs to be sung. It would be glorious to enjoy them fully, without the restrictions of poor health. Envy on my part? Possibly. Time, love, power, wealth are all more appreciated if they can be fully realised. It always niggles in the back of my mind that my health makes me a burden on those I love.

Damn. Just gone & really depressed myself. High volume Pink Floyd is my solution

Sad perhaps but I know how true Spike's statement can be. I have no kids (although I did raise my first wife's daughters for eleven years) so if the proliferation of your bloodline is the goal of life then I have failed.

    Freedom

The power to make my own decisions is the most valuable gift I have received from my Creator. That's the way I voted.

Love is better though, and so I'm not sure why I voted freedom. I guess in my own mind I'd rather have the ability to choose between love and the alternative, as foolhardy as it might be

I voted other, and I'd say the answer is happiness. After all, each of the listed "gifts," and all other write-ins that I could think of, are things that make one happy.
