Thread: Western culture! How fortunate we are!

Who can disagree? This country was undoubtedly founded pursuant to divine inspiration, through the invisible hand of God, who guided and inspired our founding fathers to establish a nation where all His children would be free and have equal opportunity.

...And look how far they have come in western civilization! Hell, we even have a black man running for president! There is one on the supreme court, not to mention the women on that very same supreme court! A woman was actually running for president, and another woman is likely to be the next Vice President!
There are countless other examples of how both groups you have mentioned made great strides in our western culture but I think you get the point!

And to think it only took 232 years to get to the point where either an african american or a woman will attain an office that has been held continuously since this great country was founded by white guys...

Apparently not open wide enough to recognized how blessed we as a Nation and the western culture as a whole are!

I was not looking for people to post who were only willing to throw the baby out with bath water, but rather people who can recognize the baby and protect the baby from those who would destroy her because of a dirt smudge here and another there!

I don't believe your comments are at all in the spirit of this thread, sir. Just as you've exercised your freedom of speech I'd encourage everybody else to exercise their freedom to ignore and carry on with this thread.

Maybe you can start another thread, "Western culture! How damned we are!" You can do that, after all. In our civilization even a woman of African descent could do that! In any other time or place that'd be impossible. Amazing!!!

What makes Western civilization so great? In a vacuum of civilization the list would be long and here in a world full of civilizations with which to compare the list is infinite. It starts with our Judeo-Christian ethics and our political and legal concepts, traditions, and establishments and ends with our high standard of living. We do have flaws, yes, but the fact that we realize them, that they burden our hearts, and that we try so hard to rectify them goes to show just how great Western civilization is.

And the future? For a while now every generation has, despite times of great darkness, thought the sun was as high as it'd ever be, but it just keeps on rising.
