Back to the original topic - who won the debate?

Of course your or my view of who won the debate is colored by our views of the candidates. I for instance feel that McCain argued too much on small points and did not address the issues as much or as well as Obama did. I also felt Obama's calm and reasoned responses point to his being the better leader.

To paraphrase David Brooks (a right leaning NY Times columnist). "After this debate I would rather listen to Obama for the next four years than McCain."

A CNN poll showed Obama winning vs. McCain winning by 58 to 31 percent and a CBS poll of uncommitted voters showed Obama winning by 53 to 22 percent.

Nobody won the debate. The American public lost, though. Here's the sum total of my opinion, for whatever my opinion is worth:

Thus, before our own time, the customs of our ancestors produced excellent men, and eminent men preserved our ancient customs and the institutions of their fore-fathers. But though the republic, when it came to us, was like a beautiful painting, whose colors, however, were already fading with age, our own time not only neglected to freshen it by renewing the original colors, but has not even taken the trouble to preserve its configuration and, so to speak, its general outlines. For what is now left of the 'ancient customs' on which the 'commonwealth of Rome' was 'founded firm'? They have been, as we see, so completely buried in oblivion that they are not only no longer practiced, but are already unknown. And what shall I say of the men? For the loss of our customs is due to our lack of men, and for this great evil we must not only give an account, but must even defend ourselves in every way possible, as if we were accused of capital crime. For it is through our own faults, not by any accident, that we retain only the form of the commonwealth, but have long since lost its substance.

Sorry so long. I'm going to the latrine to vomit now.

One of the funniest sights this election season was seeing David Brooks after Sarah Palin's RNC convention speach. He was in love! His eyes were all dreamy, and he couldn't really focus on the subject. Like a schoolboy with a crush, it was really funny to see the state he was in.

McCain needs to learn the difference between autism and downs syndrome if he wants to appear credible on healthcare issues.

    Re: Autism vs down's syndrome

I was wondering the same thing when McCain kept referring to palin and autism. Her child has down's syndrome, not autism. doesn't mccain know that?

I thought this was the best debate for McCain, unfortunately his best is not good enough. I think the Fat Lady is singing.

All those facial contortions from McCain makes me think he definitely does not need a costume for Hallowen.

After the 100th mention of Joe Plumber i thought maybe McCain and Joe Plumber need to get a room (oh the images !!!!! I am not going to be able to sleep tonight)

    - And a special message to all those who think the stock market is tanking because Barak Obama is going to become the president....
