I love rootbeer too. for me it brings back memories of childhood and pizza at the local Me-N-Ed's pizzeria that had the big walk in freezer behind the bar with the big brass trimmed glass doors. ice cold rootbeer and hot pizza, perfect combination. other than that I don't normally have it with things, I find that the rootbeer for some reason is very filling and I can drink one by itself and be pretty satisfied.
As for the which ones. mug is not bad for a can, my friend always bring to potlucks one made by I think weinhard or something, its pretty good. at least we go through it awful fast.
I was real happy after getting married to find out that my father-in-law (my wife's step-father) makes his own rootbeer every year. It's very good, different flavor though, carbonation is different I think being different. it is like the Amish one where it doesn't last too long.
irritating thing is he also makes homemade ice cream right, but never the too at the same time, which would make for a killer rootbeer float in my opinion.

Thanked: 0It looks like they've got a "Diet" version, though they don't say that it's truly sugar-free.

I'm gonna have to wait until after Thanksgiving (don't want to have to share with relatives), but I am most definitely seeking out some Virgil's the next chance I get.
My parents occasionally get a keg of Sprecher's root beer for large parties, which is probably the best I've tried, though I don't know quite how fine it really is.
