If you accept the bible as being an accurate document (I do not) it makes no difference. In Matthew Jesus is quoted as saying that not one jot or tittle shall be deleted from the law until 'all' is fulfilled. See this explanation for clarity.

Having grown to adulthood when sex was dirty and air was clean I am not an advocate for gay marriage. OTOH, I am okay with civil unions and homosexuals and lesbians having the same rights as married heterosexuals if they are in a civil union. No one should be discriminated against because of their sexual preference IMO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Only when YOU freely confess that cute guys get YOU hot, but that you CHOOSE not to engage in homosexual activity can we consider accepting that statement as true. What do you say, Glen is it your choice or are you born Hetero? Do you desire gay sex and choose to do nothing about it or is this how you were made?

Believe it or not, but the data is out there to indicate that homosexuality is not a choice. Subsequent male children from the same mother have a greater chance of displaying homosexuality as the mother's womb begins to protect itself from a build-up of testosterone. So we may all discard our uneducated opinions because we have facts.

Maybe the whole problem is that marriage actually is a religious institution, but the government made it a legal one?

Isn't the idea of "civil unions" supposed to address the government/legal side of things without infringing on the religious aspects of marriage?

Did I miss the factual part of that Vid ????

Please don't start linking research, one way or the other....

We still can't decide the "facts" on simple things like Evolution, Global Warming, or even a healthy freaking diet....

Each person needs to make their voice heard with their vote, oh wait we did that.... Hmmmmmm a few times......

Question??? Is Gay "Marriage Legal in Canada???? and does that force a Church to marry Gays????

    Right on.
    In my perfect little world...

Marriage: Happens in your religious institution of choice.
Then, you go to the town hall (with your husband or wife, regardless of your gender), and sign up for "Civil Rights That Come With Being A Legally Recognized Partnership." The state has not intruded on "marriage" but will give the rights to everyone. If your church won't do gay marriages, so be it. I'll find one that will. The state doesn't have to "recognize" ANY marriages. Just the rights that come with the bond.

Just another example of why the state and religion really shouldn't hang out that much.

I was looking for a specific vid, but couldn't find it so I posted the prop * because it has relevance. If I find it again I'll post it.

Same sex unions are indeed now legal in Canada because not to accept them breaks the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in our constitution. It is illegal (as well as immoral) to discriminate against someone based on their gender, skin colour, ethnicity or sexual orientation. No church is forced to perform them if they do not wish. No-one is forced to marry a same sex partner or to attend same sex unions against their will. This has shifted the debate from congregations to the church heads themselves as they argue over whether or not their church should allow same sex unions. The more reform the church, the less problem they have with it of course. The Anglican church here in Canada may be experiencing a split over the issue.

First-it was a joke, kind of, I had to throw purgatory in to make it seem less crazy than sending bad drivers to hell.

second-my point was not that they had anything to do with beliefs on right and wrong. it was that many who call themselves Christians display very un-Christian like behavior when they get heated about their beliefs. I sh*t you not, I know a minister who once told me when she got irritated about a discussion we were having on welfare and her "information" wasn't backed by data and she said,"people on welfare are evil." wow. I really got a good laugh out of that.
