    Unhappy

I would also suspect the landlord
    question all your neigbors
maybe someone here with detective experience can suggest the wording of the questions so as not to cloud their response

look on craigslist for your stuff

look at local pawnshops, if they don't have your stuff then ask if they have seen something like it

ask the guys in pawnshops where thieves get rid of stolen stuff
they turn away LOTS of obviously stolen stuff

use the search function on ebay to search within 50 miles of your house
    for your stuff

find out who the detective is and ask him for more idea than I listed
ride the local law enforcement like a LBFM
make them want to solve it so you quit calling

    get on it man
for every stolen item there is a seller-buyer
your stuff isn't going to find itself

Thanks for the support everyone, you are all great people. Some people have made some generous offers to help and we thank you all. We are going to be ok, and we will have what we need when we go back to NC. As far as shaving gear goes When I came out west I brought one of my rotation razors, a TM practice strop and two resto projects...so even if they got my collection I have enough and I can slowly build things back.

As others have said, it's not the stuff so much as it is the violation of the whole thing. But we are pulling together... thanks again for the support.

We are already following all of these leads and the good thing is that I did have serial numbers for all of the really visible stuff. Thanks for the help

Well, let us know how the razor stash fared.

My in-laws got broken into last xmas and for a time they thought that the Boker I gave to my FIL was found and stolen. I took some comfort in thinking that such a fiend was highly likely to to cut himself and/or someone else with such a blade. Turned out the Boker wasn't found and it was eventually returned to me.

For those who don't know, a bush hog is a big mower you pull behind your tractor. It's great for mowing, clearing fields, and mulching 8 yr old boys. I lost most of my left ulna, 3 of my carpal bones, and broke my radius in a few places. I'd post a picture, but mods on forums usually get bitter about it. I hope you get your stuff back, and regain some of your peace of mind.

Following up on GWH - if they got your razors, that could be the lead the police need - how hard do we all search for decent razors...and what are the odds of a razor (s) just like your showing up from that region on eBay, Craigslist, or in a pawn shop. It's not like they can just go and sell them anywhere...esp. a batch of them. It would be like trying to hock a Faberge egg - someone will remember it. It's good you have the serial numbers for the electronics, etc.

Keep after the police - squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Bizarre facts about your case (based on what you said):

A - It happened while you were away - they new or had been told (either casing the place or had an inside source)
B - If no other apartments were hit, then they knew to hit yours.
C - They cleaned the place out -
C.1 - either they planned that or -
C.2 - if you did not have a lot of high dollar items - they may have done it to get back at you (weird thief logic "How dare you not have expensive things I can hock! I'll show you!") or
C.3 - they were someone you knew (any enemies or someone with a gridge who is also a shady character?)
D - They had the confidence to be able to take large, bulky items (furniture, etc.), so they knew they would not be bothered (this may negate C.2)
E - they took your razors. Most thieves would view razors as junk (or potential mugging weapons), but not as something worth money, like silver, stereos, laptops, CDs, etc. So, either they were being very thorough or they knew the razors had value. So, they may have know you had them and may have overheard you discussing the value or they just happen to be very savvy thieves.
F - who notified your FIL? When? Do you know that person? If so, do you trust that person? Sometimes accomplices will go to the authorities to allay suspicion.
G - did anyone notice a truck, van? If not, your stuff could be in a neighboring apartment....unless they just piled everything on the sofa and carried it down the street. I had some potted plants taken of a deck in Baltimore - they weighed from 100 - 250 lbs. The neighbors did it (no other way to get into the fenced back yard other than to climb over and heave them over to the next yard.

Good luck in your search! If the thieves are found, I have a 20lb sledge you can borrow......

+1 Wirebeard If they stripped your place, it was planned and they brought a truck. Even a small place would have to have been trucked. Someone close to you, a nieghbor or acquaintance had you pegged.

Seriously? Who steals plants? Even if they're nice plants, I still can't see that.

We were broken into a long time ago and had all our stuff taken. It's screwed up to see the neighbors with your stuff, lemme tell ya.

Wirebeard brings up some good points. Consider everybody you were talking to about your trip.

We do have leads, and nobody but family knew we were going to be gone. I didn't have bad blood or history with anyone, I stay to myself a lot. We know who would have noticed, and we are following up on that.

so let me get this straight

    you have a razor

you also have an idea who it was

well the combination of the two should make it a slam dunk

    good point Wirebeard

    B
    C
and F in particular about another apartment

if I caught someone who had burglarized my house they would live to regret it
    but not for very long
