Thanked: 235Would you lend you knife to someone?
On occasion some of the teachers at the school where I work have asked me if I have a cutter when they have some task that requires a blade. When they ask this I graciously hand them my pocket knife. Each time I have lent my knife the person using it has proceded to cut thin paper or plastic using the glass top of a table as a cutting serface. Needless to say at the moment the edge of my pocket knife is extremely dull. So I wanted to ask, would you lend your knife to a fellow worker?

I think if I carried a knife to work, I'd probably get fired. Knives in the "wrong place" in Japan are not really that kindly looked upon...

Thanked: 317That's true in much of the US as well.
One suggestion I would make, is that if you work somewhere that people regualrly ask to borrow your pocket knife, carry one of those ones that looks and folds like a pocket knife, but uses box cutter blades. They can do any terrible thing to it they want, and when the edge get's trashed, you just pop in a new blade.

No. I've been carrying a pocket knife since I was 10 years old. If someone asked I would find out what they needed cut and do it for them if it wasn't something that would mess up my knife. If it was I would tell them to look elsewhere.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I carry two knives at work and use them both on a regular basis. I have a Kenesaw with a 3 inch blade and a Swiss Army Knife. Each one serves a different purpose. Everyone else on my team carries a knife also so I don't need to load mine out.

Thanked: 6I've actually learned my lesson after watching what non -knife people do with knives i.e. driving screws, prying with them, you name it. If your a full grown adult and haven't figured out knife 101 you probably shouldn't use one. Some of the worst offenders happen to be my fellow Aviation mechanics, you would figure they of all people would know better.

Yes, I loan out my knives to co-workers, although that is after some query into their expeced application. My knives are sharp (as the should be), and it gives them an example of what knives they should be using anyway. It allows educating them, and letting my tools be more accepted by those with less experience.

I don't let people borrow my knives, and I certainly don't let them know that I can sharpen them either... I don't like creating a lot of work for myself
