Yes, though more often it would be a quotation from literature, a motto, or, in thebigspendur's case, a loopy "news" story. A couple of members who were vendors advertised their services in that space, and I think that's why the mods eliminated that functionality. It didn't bother me that vendors did that, but apparently some were bothered by it and complained.
