Three weeks ago I was returning from a job interview and got stranded overnight in Chicago O'Hare due to a severe thunderstorm. (I don't travel often, and hate to fly, but I only have about a 50% success rate with that airport) Surprisingly, the airport set up a lot of cots for the stranded travelers. Within 20 minutes about a third of the cots were occupied but by that point EVERY single pillow and blanket on unoccupied cots were gone. That's right, those who had already claimed cots for themselves helped themselves to 2, 3, even 4 blankets and pillows, ignoring that this meant those who came for cots later, and they did, would be left without pillows or blankets.

I couldn't stay in the area. It infuriated me that people would behave so thoughtlessly to each other. I envisioned myself yelling at the entire crowd telling them exactly what kind of excretory orifices they were.

I remember something my grandmother said a long time ago well before she died. She said that she was glad that she was going to die when she was, because she did not like the way people are becoming. I think I'm finally beginning to agree with her.

Just reading your story made my blood boil. I would not have been able to sleep there either.

You know, last week you and I had a perspective and maybe even factual disagreement on scything. The conversation took place respectfully, intelligently and courteously. We did not agree and shook hands. Period. No name calling. No insults. Just gentlemanly disagreement.

THAT my friend is why I stay here.

One thing I don't get in the reporting is that he would be considered to be a hero by us regular mortal "folks".

I can imagine a bluegrass folk tune whipped up, a comical one, but not flattering to him as a hero.

I get it that you have to swallow many of your real feelings when dealing with the public......hero by this folk, no way.

I also read that Slater had been caring for his father who had/has ALS, and now his mother is dying from cancer, so I imagine he was under some stress to begin with.

He got hit hard enough to cut his head - I'd have been pretty hacked off too. I was just thinking the other day that I'm glad I don't have kids. I wouldn't want them to grow up in the society we have today.

I stand corrected - I'm a degreed engineer - but that does not mean I'm not a moron.

PS - The cutting motion you describe on the scything cut is what many describe as the shearing cut -oops - I just hijacked this thread. Perhaps I'm a hypocrite as well as having a vocabulary problem

That's a fact. Half of the charges won't stick in court. And this guy will end up doing just fine.
