I didn't follow the links that started this thread. I'm too much of a dog person, and come from a "dog" family--my folks still breed from time to time.
Some Chinese are great people. Some Chinese are not so great of people. As pointed out, that can be said of any people group. I take issue with some of their cultural values. But I take issue with some of our (USA) cultural values too.

Thanked: 16I am from the UK born and bred, and just for the record white male Caucasian, but over the years I think I have eaten just about everything that crawls, runs, swims or fly’s except long pig (human flesh) and I have to say that I don’t make any distinction between any animal whether it’s a so called farmed animal, domestic or wild if it’s cooked right pass it over I’ll try anything twice just to make sure I didn’t like it the first time, members of my family have over the years had and kept horses I’m still involved with horse events (point to point and endurance riding) but think it’s a shame that we don’t sell horse meat in the butchers we used to and it’s very nice to eat, we had a spate many years ago in the UK when a lot of ethnic restaurants were raided and were found to be serving both cat and dog in their dishes they were only found out because the feral population of both had dropped in the local area and one restaurant had dumped the skins in their bin but the people who had been in and eaten there didn’t know until after the news broke and up till that point had been very happy to go there" This is about the longest post I have ever done sorry about that but there’s to much of “do as I say and not as I do” and intolerance in this world and it really gets up my nose when people go some where and expect the people there to change “if you don’t like it don’t live there” why should they change centuries of tradition and life to suite you an outsider.
Sorry Rant Over
Have a nice day

One given about the Human Animal that will never change is that the further away we get from our closest social group (our family) the more we suspect, mistrust, hate, revile, and find it easy to dismiss, abuse, and murder other humans.

I have no problem with buddy skinning his dinner as long as it was killed in a humain way. As far a the human cruelty there really is no excuse
, no matter what country you happen to be living in.
And these things don't just happen China they are happening in our own back yard. So before we can start fixing the world with our way of life, maybe we should fix our way of life first.

Many old traditions of eating things that might look weird come directly from the times where it was vitally important not to let anything go into waste.
The whole different question is how we treat those animals (or each other for the matter).'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

Thanked: 23I absolutely love beef and see no issue with the raising and slaughtering of cow. But I can't say I would be thrilled if I looked outside my office window right now and saw someone skinning a cow. Many things are better done in private.
I think we can all agree that this is in bad taste. The article even mentions people walking by expressing their disapproval, and that isn't a foreigners opinion.

I've never eaten dog, I've never had an interest either. But what someone does to feed for himself on the other side of the world really is no concern of mine, or anyone else. Animals don't have rights.
