Thanked: 1185OK, on the count of three we'll all join hands and sing Kumbaya. After all, everyone knows that:
- Brutal totalitarian communist regimes and and democracies are the same thing
- Open exchange of ideas and information and a government run firewall limiting access to outside information are equal expressions of personal liberty.
- Open political debate and the right of people to determine their country's political landscape and running over demonstrators with tanks in Tienamin square is the same thing.
- And finally for the piece de resistance, the President of the United States, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, bends over backwards to wine and dine a dictator who has incarcerated this year's winner of that same award for political reasons

in the news recently was the story about the father who sold his 4 year old girl to a "circus" so she could lean a trade well she was put out in the streets to learn her trade, Begging! and if she didn't make enough or was lazy she would be burned , beaten, starved and tortured daddy didn't know or did he ?
when she returned the daddy was all in tears . who didnt get arrested the caring daddy.
every night in front of the clubs and pubs there is an army of little girls selling flowers and who knows what else all about this girls age.
I know its not the only country where the people do this but Its the only one i have lived in that does and where the parents do not have to face any consequences.
children are bought and sold like a common commodity if foreigners say or do anything about it we are told to leave it as we don't understand china's problems. hmmm
5000 years of history ?

03-08-2011, 07:03 AM #65Though I fail to see your point,
If i were to mention how disheartening the drug/ corruption problem was in say Burma or Afghanistan would that also be stirring hatred ? or how about greed and corruption in the USA, these are things much better documented then what happens here in the great ol PRC.
To my understanding all I said and did is to express my opinion (and put up a couple stories off the Chinese webs By the way most comments if you read them are translations from Chinese to English) which is a widely held opinion among both the ex- pat community and the western leaning local population.
You want to talk about China with other stories (poor doggies, poor kittens ) that don't come from a website which' sole purpose seems to be to talk trash about another country then I'd be happy to talk about it.
Like I said we all know the world isn't made out of lemon drops and rainbows but talking about a country as if it's bad because their FOOD habits are different? Really?
You don't judge a country by a few horror stories either. People renting out their children doesn't just happen in China. Don't act as if it's the exception. The entire orient has practises like that going on. At least this poor girl wasn't raped or sexually abused yet. Most girls that suffer a "renting out" have to suffer that.
My brother spent 6 months in Thailand working with an organisation that fights such things.
You think China is so bad? Maybe you should do something about it other than talk smack about their home. There are plenty of organisations that would love to have your inside view and help in working with the chinese and making things better for them.
The two stories you linked have NOTHING in common outside of the fact that they both take place in China.
I bet I could find eaqually horrible stories on the web about the states in about 5 minutes of googling, or about the Netherlands, or about Germany, france, Saudi Arabia etc etc etc. Your initial post added nothing constructive to any debate, in fact the only thing it said was "look at how horrible china is" (paraphased from how it came across to me).
@1OldGI
No-one is saying china is a great place. However the stories that were linked say nothing about china as a place/country and everything about the people involved in the stories. A guy that rents out his daughter to be beaten etc is a scumbag and should be beaten to within an inch of his life. No matter what place he comes from. Do they always get caught and punished? No they don't. Do scumbags in the US always get caught? No they don't. Scumbags all over the world get away with things. Does that automatically reflect on the place where they live? Ofcourse not.

Lx, you know what? you are a great guy , no really . I say this because you stand up for something you know very little about and that takes cherries.
I really don't wish to get into an argument with you about this as you might be one of those people who is an apologist or perhaps have left wing leanings and that's fine.
I only suggest you live in some of our backwater countries here in Asia before you stand up for them. China is great at placing a pretty front but they are only the rich and supportive big brother of the murdering juntas to the south.
what I tend to keep in mind is that without religion there is no moral and isn't Communism about placing man above all else?
Food? eat what ever keeps you alive I could care less what I do care about is slaughtering animals on the side of city streets there is a time and place for everything. and I love my dog as well as all the other animals I own which I feed better then a lot of people all over the world eat.
what i do think is disgusting is people crushing animals for pleasure and then bragging about it but not being prosecuted.
what is wrong is, parents selling their children and not being held criminally responsible. use a condom you irresponsible illiterate waste of breath.
does it bother me that medicine is reserved for the wealthy ? yes it does. a friend of mine died because he didn't have 50 thousand rmb available at three am, they let him die of a heart attack.
yes I live here and yes I am part of the problem if I am not finding a solution.
I bet you would not believe the amount of apathy here.Last edited by shayne; 03-08-2011 at 02:25 PM.

Whoa!
I was kinda feeling for you. Really, I was. Not sharing your point of view or presentation, but I kinda felt you were at a disadvantage and perhaps misunderstood.
And then... then... you, with one single post, totally alienated me.
Ad hominem, non sequitur, straw man, religion (for the love of gawd!) and communism. Just because someone told you what they thought and why.
I'm wondering why you left out comparisons to Hitler and parallels to Nazism.
BTW, dog is kinda Meh! but not as bad as monkey.
