    Default Movie Recommendations?

I was "catching up" on movies recently, and I was really underwhelmed. I don't have a TV, so I don't really know what's new and good; what better place to ask than here.

What's good that's relatively new? Or what's an old favorite that you'd recommend?

I did just watch the unrated version of Bridesmaids. Yea, it was a little girly, but I still really liked it. I'd also recommend The Mechanic, if you haven't seen it yet.

Mongol is a good one. As is 13 Assassins. If you like kung fu movies the Ong Bak movies (anything with Tony Jaa) are fun.Tokyo Gore Police is way over the top but if you enjoy the genre it is amazing.
However, I find myself watching a lot of Thomas the tank engine movies a lately. As well as princess and fairy movies.
Avoid, at all costs, barbie fairytopia. It made me want to smash my head in. Thomas and the Hero of The Rails wasn't too bad, though.

I haven't seen the new Mechanic, but love the old one w Charles Bronson. I recommend watching "Eastern Promises". I think I'll watch it again myself just now, thanks!

I really liked Pandorum with Dennis Quid (Sci-Fi). but if you are in the mood for a oldie but a goodie i would recommend The Great Escape with Steve McQueen and a hundred other amazing actors.

The Expendables with Stallone, Jet Li et al. Plenty of big names (and big explosions) but they don't seem to take themselves too seriously. It's a bit over the top, but a fun ride just the same.

That was a movie you need to go into with zero expectations.

Red was good. I liked the latest X-Men movie, best one IMHO.

you know i was thinking about this the other day, a movie thread i was thinking of going one step further and having a movie club, like a book club for movies. Somebody proposes a movie, we go watch it and then give our opinions.

In the wake of the upcoming "the Thing" prequel iwas thinking of a "The thing: groundbreaking or just very good example of a horror film" or some such.

Anyway "The lovely Bones" was on film four last week and i thought it was very good indeed. Stanley Tucci was superbly creepy.

Michel Collins, taken, great movie about Ireland
The Town, classic bank robber movie with a bit of a love story twist
Conspirators (the one about Lincoln), fallows the trials after lincoln's assassination
Wild Target, assassin falls in love, its hilarious
Arsenic and old lace, great old Cary Grant movie
The Quiet Man, John Wayne in a non-cowboy movie IMHO one of his best
The man who shot Liberty Valance, Great John Wayne

Sorry about the long list but I love movies. Best of luck.
No that pistol isn't the only thing under my kilt, but I can tell you both of them work just fine
