Sick time usage/Monday Morning Blues
I woke up today and just felt like blah. Almost did the stay home thing. Just don't want to be at work today.
Anyone else have the MMB? Why is it so hard for me to use my sick time? Did my parents screw me by instilling a work ethic in me? I would have really enjoyed staying home today but I cannot seem to use my sick time...unless I'm sick.
Is declaring a "Mental Health day" a proper use of sick time? Sometimes I feel like an idiot because others don't seem to mind using sick time for any reason they can come up with. Maybe it is just me.

Thanked: 14As much as you would have enjoyed the time off, you would have felt guilty about it later. I am blessed (cursed?) With the same work ethic.

Jeff,
I hear you. I came back from a meet up yesterday, and by 8:00 P.M. felt like death had taken a slice of me. Despite not being able to sleep all night from sneezing, runny nose and coughing (no nyquil in the house), I'm heading to the office to try being productive...He saw a lawyer killing a viper on a dunghill hard by his own stable; And the Devil smiled, for it put him in mind of Cain and his brother Abel.

Sick time does not exist here. Either you take a day off, or you have a doctors note. The doctor (normally, though there are doctors with dodgy ethics) will not write a note if you're not actually 'sick'. Feeling 'bleh' does not qualify.
So if you have a 'bleh' day, you have to take up a holiday, or take back some flex time and start late.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Maybe it's just the nomenclature. My company used to have vacation days and sick days. If you wanted a sick day you typically called in using a weak, slightly hoarse and very nasal voice that made you sound like you were at death's door to convince the boss that you shouldn't be at work contaminating the rest of the employees. Then we merged with another company and sick days and vacation days were eliminated and, instead, we were given a set number of "personal days" to be used as we saw fit. A day off is to be had by calling in with your normal voice and saying you're taking a personal day. Now there is no guilt for faking a sick day.

Mvcrash,
I have the MMB's all the time. It's just part of life or work, to be more accurate.
Just think of the alternatives--unemployed, buried in the cold, cold ground, etc. Doing so wipes away my MMBs instantly!"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Ahhh.... I too am always thankful that I am employed. I am always the optimist but sometimes I just need a day to myself. I think I am going to do a quickie road trip this weekend and in November, jump in my little red convertible and take a long road trip to see my parents in Florida.

If you have a job where you get sick leave or personal days count yourself lucky because most folks get no such thing.
Before retirement, in my job you accrued sick days and could build them up and eventually they counted towards your retirement. We had two types of people. One took off all their sick time as they accrued them and a few years later found themselves in trouble because they really got sick and lost the pay and the other type were folks who had thousands of hours and never took a day even if they were so sick they were at death's door.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Hey, you misplaced this thread. As far as I'm concerned days off work should go in the finer things in life
