Josh,
You're good with guns aren't you?
Why not go into a field and shoot a cow?
BTW, recently read sth about Kobe steaks. How about that? When alive the steaks were fed beer and massaged daily!

Thanked: 2Kobe style Wagyu beef is better than anything else in the world. If you love rare or medium rare steaks, true Kobe, or Kobe style beef is the way to go.
Kobe is the area of Japan that the cows were originally raised in the specific style. Wagyu is the type of cattle, chosen for their high % of even marbling. Regular steaks can marble at 7% or so, while Kobe can marble at a high of 15% or so. While regular steaks have the thick veins of fat, Kobe style has very fine and even veining that produces an incredible flavour when properly prepared.
The animals have to be treated differently than regular cattle, because Japan doesn't have thousands of acres available for grazing. This involves a different diet, which includes a great deal of leftover grains from the brewing industry in Japan, along with limited excercise. It is said that a Wagyu cow has only one bad day in it's life.
Best when prepared blue to med-rare, Kobe or Kobe style would make an excellent gift.
The difference in "Kobe Wagyu" and "Kobe style Wagyu" beef is that Kobe comes from the Kobe area of Japan. Kobe style is the same breed of cattle raised elsewhere, but raised in the specific "style" or traditions that began in Kobe. It's similar to the idea that only sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France can be called Champange, the rest is referred to as sparkling wine...

I always wanted to try them, but my grandfather who is very well travelled has had kobe beef in japan and stated he didnt think it was worth it. Now this is from a guy that will drop 3 grand on a jacket because of the brand name, and wont be seen in anything other then a benz, so I know its not about the money. I know I cant afford it, but I am wondering if anyone knows anyone who has tried it, and what they thought about it?

I'm not sure how you feel about steakhouses vs. making your own steak, but if your father in law lives anywhere near you there is probably a Smith & Wollensky's nearby. I've eaten there twice -- once before my first deployment and once on my honeymoon -- and it was the best damn steak I have ever had. They sell gift cards...just a thought.
