Holy crap!!! What did they build him out of!!?? Sure wasn't asbestos. Looks like they used asphalt shingles, glued together with cordite and napalm!! Over here, up on the North Coast, they have a big Paul Bunyon and his big blue ox, Babe. They used to have a dude inside the tourist trap that would watch people coming and he could talk, through Paul, to them. You know, like, "Hey, you in the yellow shirt, nice kids you have there", that kind of stuff. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but too bad they didn't have a guy for Tex!! I could hear it now, "Oh NO, NO NO NO, PLEASE SOMEONE HELP"!! Again, thanks for the pictures, the old house you took pictures of is way cool. I love old buildings, the craftsmanship, the high celings, the tall base boards. Crap, the porcelain door knobs I can sell here for twenty bucks a set, no problem. Heck, in the Bay Area, double it. Take care buddy, I'm going to the Portuguese Festa and bullfights tomorrow, camera will be in hand, I don't go South very often.

THE "voice of Big Tex" was unaware his toy was on fire.

I was thinking he could have had some great fun with it, but he stood outside and watched the fire with everyone else.

Most of that thing was fiberglass. OLD fiberglass.

You know there is something about a well built small place that pulls on my romantic strings. The idea of being well organised and a minimalist really does it for me... in a romantic way. But in reality, I wonder where would I put all my razors and hones?

It was too weird as when I got back home and my mother in law saw that photo… she almost burst into tears – she knew the family. It was quite moving. I can't seem to find the photo right now, but I’ll try. In the mean time on that same trip to France I also got a shot of the Lizard Kings headstone.
Well I finally found the pictures... I really need to organize my photos a bit better.

Finally made it back to Mingus, TX today. Summer gig is pretty much done. Took care of the punch list today and sent the crew home. Doubt we ever see this particular contractor on this type gig again. Crews did good work for the most part. Management has some real issues. Stupid decisions have cost that company about $35K in liquidated damages that were charged for non performance. Oh well.
Meanwhile back in Mingus. As stated before, there isn't much to Mingus anymore. One church, a post office, a bank branch, two convenience/liquor stores and 5, that's right, FIVE bars. Those boys like their alcohol.

    Old store.

    Closed.

John Frank's Grocery. Out of "bid-ness" since the 70's.

    I knocked but nobody answered.

I stay out of buildings that I don't have permission to enter.

The porch on that one looked very iffy and I didn't particularly want to step through it.

I would like to get into a lot of these old places, but better safe than sorry.
