Thanked: 94Ok so quick update and a question.
Update: Stalked those pigs for about 10 miles saturday and sunday, no shot....did get woofed at on the side of a mountain, apparently I had stalked right up to a sleeper while trying to get a shot on his brother. never got a chance at either. Back out on thursday hopefully!
Question: ok so I need a new pair of boots. I have worn through my last pair in 14 months. I hunt mostly mountains and volcanic back country which shreds boots and kills the sole's. My hunts are anywhere from 90F to 32F from intense heat to sheets of sleet and rain. I hike from 5-10 miles a day. I dont really know what to go for so what do you all use?

Re: Hunters and Outdoorsmen
Check out Carolina boots. Most of theirs have a replaceable Goodyear welt.
Any of the good boot companies with replaceable/repairable welts will probably be your best bet.

Thanked: 94I checked out the Carolina boots. The best option for the terrain that I hunt is going to be a boot/athletic combo. I am not sure they can replace those. I know I have have my Redhead's re-soled, but I dont want to do that every 6 months. Maybe I will just have to suck it up and figure on $130 in boots a year. Man I miss the east. Hiking these volcanic hills is like walking on cheese grater's surrounded by cacti...

Re: Hunters and Outdoorsmen
I've had a pair of Timberland leather hiking boots for a couple years that have held up well. But that's on the east coast where things aren't so brutal. My wife swears by her Merrils.

Thanked: 1371I was going to go bowhunting today, but it was raining too hard.
If it's nice I might get out tomorrow.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

It was 85 degrees here today for the opening of archery season. I stayed home and played with the kids.
I'll go out Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday this week. Monday will be a hike in the rain up to SNP as a form of civil disobedience.
