Thanked: 334And Gov. Snyder just signed legislation making Michigan a Right-To-Work state. When I become a citizen I'm not voting for that guy!

Having lived in two 'right to work' states , as a union member, I have seen it. We called it the right to work for less. Fortunately for the non union workers the prevailing union wage lifted them up as far as in the pocket went. Benefits were generally far behind for the non union worker if they existed at all.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that unions are always right. I worked in locals that were very similar to the one depicted in "On The Waterfront." so I've seen more than one side of the equation. OTOH, history shows why men and women banded together to form unions to counter unfair company policies. We see those abuses today in the newly industrialized countries to remind us of why the unions came about to begin with.

They aren't FORCED to do anything... they are forced to join the union if they want a union job though!
Just like you are forced to get a drivers licence before you can legally drive, forced to pay your taxes and get insurance before you get a plate.
No one forces anyone to take a job!David

Thanked: 334I have no argument against choosing not to join a union.
My issue is with those who reap the benefits of union representation in the form of prevailing wages and benefits without paying for said representation. Those are the true "freeloaders" about whom the Republicans incessantly whine.

Some food for thought from one of the most respected journalists from north of the border.
Neil Macdonald: The right to work for less - World - CBC News
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
