Fear, not I am not afraid of a sexy face even with a rose!
What about the entropy of a gaussian distribution being the logarithm of its variance? I am pretty sure it is statistical, but is it a fact?
Secondly, I postulate that the universe is gaussian, and if you don't accept this as a statistical fact, you better come to the land of easy guns and defend your position with a roo sack or whatever you use down there

Dang gugi - you are being a real buz-kill here LOL!!!!!
I tell you what though - I am pondering his comment about violence begets violence! I like it... I believe it... I want proof!
Anyone got some stats on... un anyone got some... uh, can anyone prove that for me! That would be a killer place for the left to start, assuming a gun is violent or uh, that we can prove it's used to create violence. Dang!! This hurts! But seriously - I think Jimbo or rather James is on to something there!David

Someone sent me this in my email. I knew about Germany, but wasn't aware of all the other statistics.
I read about using off duty police, That's a good idea. Most off duty cops here, are used to watch road construction workers. Put them in the schools.
A LITTLE GUN HISTORY
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. >From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
If you value your freedom, please spread this antigun-control message to all of your friends.
SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!
SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.
SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!
IT'S A NO BRAINER!Last edited by zib; 12-21-2012 at 12:54 AM.

Hmmmmm, I would have to disagree there, Way to many instances of Guerrilla warfare, stopping a much larger and better armed force, you don't even have to go back very far in history to prove that ...
Secondly, I have serious doubts that very many American soldiers will ever fight on American soil, even if ordered to.
Third, I agree it is a silly notion

Yeah but the problem with that Glen, is in those story's people were trying to be gentle to the public. It's kind of dumb in my opinion but that's a whole different debate. Name any time in history when a government went after their own people and didn't off the public. You see what I am saying?
A gorilla force might be able to hold off Russia and America - but only because we don't fight wars of attrition anymore. Or because America or Russia was backing the gorilla's. If we went back to "kill them all and let god sort it out," no war fought by America would ever be lost.
If America ever imploded - many citizens would be killed - very possibly because they were shooting at the army. Who knows.David

Thanked: 1587All these things are mathematical assumptions or definitional. They've got nothing to do with statistics beyond the fact that they share the underlying probability theory.
To my mind the only real "truth" is probability theory, in the philosophical sense. Pragmatically, probability and measure theory suffers from the same problems that much of classical mathematics suffers from - it is axiomatic, and today's "so evident that it is taken as true without question" is tomorrow's "laughably naive assumptions".
