Thanked: 1587Wow, that's lot of "terms of endearment"!
I've never really thought about it too much - it's such an instantly recognisable and ubiquitous accent that I just think it sounds American - but clearly there must be British (and I guess French, in your part of the country?) undertones in there. Australians, in general, have trouble telling the Canadian and US accents apart. However, I grew up watching Degrassi High and Friends - so when I'm talking to someone I just ask myself which "Joey" they sound like, and it usually works out!
But back to the thread - went to the beach yesterday (to work on my sunburn and give my melanomas a top-up). Very hot on the coast. At our house the temperature got to 41 Centigrade (don't know what that is in Farenheit) and no storm to cool things off. That mini tornado also struck a more western town called Dalby - not a lot of damage from what I've heard, luckily. More hot weather in store today...

Thanks, Jimbo ----I thought it might be a hard question to answer but always wondered. It gets even more complicated with the various accents --put a person from Mississippi in the same room as a person from Minnesota and you get a good idea of the variation. Even within Louisiana, northern "Red Neck" Louisianians sound significantly different than the coastal Cajun types.
Is that a welsh Corgi for your avatar ---cool dog ---also like those Australian Cattle Dogs ---maybe it's the Mad Max thing ---one of my favorite movies but probably over referenced for most Australians. -anyhoot ---take it easy (or sleazy) whichever you prefer.

Thanked: 1587I used to have Pembroke Corgis, but my avatar is of my current dog. She's a Husky crossed with a (red) Border Collie - a very full-on dog, and is both too intelligent and too fast for me! Her name is Mable, but goes by the moniker "hare slayer" around these parts. But yeah, her colouring is very Corgi-like. Luckily she inherited the Husky double coat, and her undercoat keeps her cool in the summer heat.

I was thinking Border Collie as well. Some people do get it wrong --those thick coats can keep a dog cool in the summer --- I suppose like sheep. "Hare Slayer" , huh, yep one of my favorites dogs was a rat terrier --he would jump on anything that moved and finish it off quickly -- I like dogs with a little attitude and high spirit.

P.S. Even though they do have official hares around here, we tend to use the word rabbit even when they're hares. Just a little cultural exchange.

Sunny and 41 degrees in N.E. Oklahoma....lots better than it was a couple of weeks ago At that time it was 25 degrees outside and 45 degrees inside with no electricity/heat and no way to cook...miserable. Camping is one of my favorite pastimes, but not in the dead of winter.

Chilly and about two inches of snow. The first real coating of the year, and it's almost February.

Don't want to stick it to my northern buddies but it's about 70 F here with blue skies.
Hope it's warming up for ya --but maybe you want it cold as hell. Later,
Justin
