Well I don't really toss the dice on the final project as that's what the junk blade is for. I like to have a 99 percent chance of getting it right when it counts. But as you know "stuff happens".
But it's the trial and error and experimenting that I think is so beneficial. You have to make mistakes and try stuff just to see what happens. Once you find out those results one thing leads to another and you build your base of knowledge.
Already I have a plan to try and see if it will work to restore that Wosty. The other blade will take some figuring but I do have the Gold plating down pat as I've done several of my Gold plated blades ( Goldedges and a Union Gold Coin) and they came out great.
Add them all up and I'll have something to show.

I was 'trying' to say that the tossing of the dice was what you had found the results had shown with the junk blade!!!

In other words, the results of your experiments with the junk blade showed you what you wanted on the finished product!!

The experiments gave you 'Options' for how you wanted the end results to look like!!

All that really matters is that you brought a vintage blade back to life and it looks GREAT!!

    Oh , I'm sorry . I misunderstood
your statement. But fortunately you already understood the
    process.
    Thanks'

That W&B, in my opinion is the best "all over" restore that I have seen anywhere. I am picky!

great restore , as I was saying in Pierre's post I really like the "dual finish" and was hoping for at least some guidelines around how you did it (not just "trying different ways of doing it "), if you change your mind please let me/us know how you did the finish and the masking
