We get our garlic starts/semantics/bulbs from Filaree Garlic Farm. Yes we could use inexpensive garlic out of the grocery store/farmers market but we are going for certain kinds for certain purposes. Softnecks for platting up and hanging and mild to hot for recipes.

I try to get starts of fruits and vegtables from local sellers I find that they will do best for your soil and elevation. I believe you said there are local Amish or Mennonite near you, they always have hardy and reliable starts. See if you can purchase from them at the local farmers market.
purple potatoes from Arkansas dont grow well in Michigan dirt. As well as blackberries from Tennesse faired the same. Starts of local area gardners gave me much better results. Just sayin.

I am about to close my garden for the summer- take down the fence, turn the soil and cover it up. I got a record tomatoe harvest this year! I think it was becasue of the unusually mild spring we had here...
To contribute to the above post, I also have found that local starts always do better for me than the mass market chain store starts.

Harvested the garlic today and started prepping for braiding. We're learning our grow-able season is longer than we ever thought at this location. Looks like we might get some corn to make it. Started more lettuce and broccoli where the garlic was.

Wow that's a nice garden. Hope to double ours this fall.

We've had the warmest/driest spring on record and it has not let up. A 100 F next week. That's a roaster here in Western Washington State. Everything is way early here including the heat and other stuff is bolting already.

So for all the rest. Rain and sand and oak leaves with horse manure. Compost all organic Old School.

    Thumbs up

Very warm up here in the Idaho Panhandle 90's and even 1 day of 102°

This is the 3rd year of us trying to garden and the first time we have ever seen anything in June

Three of the Tomato plants actually have Tomatoes and one of the Strawberry bushes has one Strawberry hehehe

Can't believe how well the Pumpkins and Sunflowers are doing, they look very healthy, which makes the wife very happy

Pretty happy overall, found a nice oscillating sprinkler that covers the whole garden without any moving or adjusting, makes life much easier..
