Awesome. And this will allow you to go back to an "unmodified" shifter set up?

    Correct!.
That extra linkage will be gone and I’ll be straight into the box again. That alone made this worth the efforts.

Looking good, Mike! That linkage did get you by, though.
Saw this one the other day going into a truck. Out from under the seat!

    True that, Tom.
I was tickled with the work around at the time for sure. Allowed me to enjoy the ride a couple seasons and even had my son driving her around.
Decided I didn’t like my repair of that reverse detent so ordered a new W58 transmission #2 shift arm, complete with the original spring loaded pin pre installed. That way, I can be confident that everything is working as it should in the new box. Only $75 aside from the wait as it ships from Japan.
Looking at adding a gas heater to the garage as the torpedo is quite loud, and the diesel gets a lil stinky too over time.
Figure I can find something used on marketplace and get it installed with some flex line in a pinch.
Comfy shop is important for engine work. Can’t wear gloves when you are lapping valves and the like.

Be careful of condensation while trying to heat the garage with cold metal in it.

Yup, was a problem during the body restoration with stuff sweating as the temps changed. I’ve insulated the garage, to a point, and the goal would be to keep the temp above freezing the rest of the winter,.. somewhere around 50’ or so and warm it up more when I’m working.
The 2 metal halide hi bay lights almost do it cept they are wicked bright and also kinda spendy on the hydro.
Hence nat gas is the way I’m leaning.

I suppose it has to do with humidity. We went from freezing to 69 in a few days and the rains came. Shop is slick like walking on ice. Been running the big torpedo to dry it out.
Try to keep from opening the door! More comes in!

But the unvented air from the torpedo heater adds lots of moisture as a result of combustion

Well, proof is in the pudding. Sure dries this place out. All I care about.
