I wasnt too sure on the shape. I started out with something else in mind. The fact that i hadnt picked up a gouge in months got me a bit leary. Then this shape came out.
The Spalted stuff sure is nice looking.
    Thanks.

Hey everyone. It's been a while since I got a notification from SRP.

    Nice handle Gass

I find spalted wood always has punky spots. I don't stabilize but when I need to deal with the soft grain I mix up some resin dilute it with acetone then paint it on the piece until it doesn't absorb any more. Poor man's cactus juice.

Today I took a small limb off of my locust tree in my front yard that I had cut off a year ago. Chucked it up and made a small bowl or cup. I might use it for soaking my brush in. So I started getting polyurethane coats on it so it will be waterproof. The finish will take a few days but I think it turned out pretty nice.
Hope ya like it. The woodturning and handling of tools are coming back to me.

It's not a super hard wood but the grain is tight so I'm thinking it is considered hard. But thars just a guess. It was free wood from the tree in my front yard. Free is good! I did a little reading and it seems it is a hardwood and grows fast. Harder than the White Oak anyway. Black Locust Tree. Mine is about 50ft tall and spreads about 30ft. It's been here a long time. I do keep it trimmed up and dead wood removed every couple of years. I'd have to say it's the best-looking tree in my area.

    That's a great-looking Ashtray!
