174 in a dog-ugly, super hot-rodded 82-ish Buick Regal 2-door. Clocked by my friend, who was a sheriff's deputy back home at the time. That car was very scary. Way too much power for a bunch of 17-18 year-olds to survive having.
128 in my 2001 Civic. Smooth and easy. The engine had some left but the governor starts limiting at 128. I hit a deer in that car at about 90. big boom. $8000 damage. yikes.
130 in my 99 Passat. Smooth and quiet, my wife didn't even know we were going that fast. Also governed
42 on my mountain bike going down a steep hill pedalling as fast as I could. Also very scary.
Other various and sundry acts of automotive insanity. I grew up with a mechanically gifted dad who likes Mopar. I've gone very fast in all kinds of things, but the above are the ones I know a specific speed for that are above 120.
I have mellowed a bit in the last few years and don't drive faster than 90 or so, and rarely that fast. My Honda Fit gets 44-ish mpg at 70 vs. 34-ish mpg at 80, so my freeway cruising speed is a patient 70. Someday when I finish school and am gainfully employed I'll have something fast again...

I have a new one: 90 in the missus' new 07 Caliber. Now now, I know it's not much (and it's a Caliber!), but two points to consider here. First, I'm never on the interstate in the Caliber without SWMBO, and you all know how that goes. Second, it did NOT feel like 90. It has this transmission called a CVT2 that has variable ratios and is actually pretty damn cool. In a tiny nutshell, it gives you maximum power for low rpms and constantly adjusts to keep it that way so you don't have to peg it. As such, it is extremely smooth and doesn't sound or feel like you're going very fast. I thought I was doing about 65-70 then realized the trees were moving by pretty quick
Even though the engine is the size of a 2 liter coke bottle, the little thing can get up and go. I'm really impressed with it for what it is. I haven't yet gauged the fuel economy yet, but it's at least 25 (at the very least). I would absolutely love to drive the SRT version of it.

All many years in the past....
159mph on a Kawasaki ZXR-750, wearing shorts and t-shirt.
162mph in a tuned Subaru Impreza P1.
165mph in a tuned Subaru Impreza STI5 Type R.
180mph (ish) as a passenger in a friends Lamborghini Countach.
These days, I'm not into performance cars and I very rarely stray over the legal limits - honestly. My car is purely for getting from A to B these days.

I'm a bit of a speed demon. Got my wife"s Grand Am GT up to 235kmph in the rocky mountains, it was super smooth at that speed. She was with me so I eased off when she started yelling at me.
On our honeymoon in British Columbia I raced several cars on the Cocohalla (SP) highway including a Porsche Boxter, he beat me when we cruised past a radar trap doing 210kmph and the cop just blinked his lights at us but I got scared and slowed down. I used to have a 4 door 67 Ford Fairlane 500 with the HiPo 289 V-8 in it. My buddy and I took it on a poker rally and I ended up racing and beating a 1967 (I believe) California Special Mustang, I was doing around 125 mph on the freeway through town and he could corner faster but I would lose him on the straights. We stopped up the road at a burger joint and he pulled in behind me and couldn't believe it was just a stock 289 under the hood, I even had to pop the hood and show him the motor because he thought I was lying.
I've been in a lot of car accidents so I behave myself these days (plus I have a CDL licence to protect now). I would never buy a bike, I'd be dead in under a day.

Thanked: 124My first love--a heavily modified Sportster streetfighter. A truly cantankerous little bitch. An evil bomb of a bike that will rattle your teeth out and snap your neck back. Not as fast as a modern sportbike, for sure, bit she puts out life-threatening amounts of torque starting at 3 RPM. She and I have a love-hate relationship. Always have.

I've always kept a lid on it while driving because I'm a young male, and my insurance is high enough as it is.
But in a bike (the kind without a motor), I love me some speed. The fastest I've done was 45 on a four mile downhill on smooth dirt. The craziest was riding down Whiteface Mountain, a ski mountain in the ADK's, in the summer. That was intense, especially since I was on a hardtail with only about 80 or 100mm of travel in the fork.

Alas, a sad day has come. I need to sell my beloved pit bike (in my avatar) for some cash
If anyone is interested, let me know and I can provide all the details and pics you want. I paid $1700 for it but am only asking $1000. It hasn't been ridden much since I bought it and I need the money more than a dusty bike. I figured I'd list it here before I send it to cycle trader or e-bay.
