I've been in this business for like twenty years. You would be amazed at how few people ask to see a portfolio of the artist's work before they get in the chair. Just because a guy is working in a storefront that has tattoo on the window doesn't mean he is a tattoo artist.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Haven't checked in for a while but thought I'd drop by. Got interested when I saw this thread. Some of you guys have some excellent work! Here's my dragon which I had done last year by Wil at Randy Adams Tattoo in Ft Worth, Tx (check out his other work on Myspace and Facebook). It was a cover up of an old one. Hoping to do the other side with a Shige inspired phoenix this year.
    Cheers!

I live about 15 miles from Jimmy's shop and have been there a few times. You can believe me when I say he is an awesome tattoo artist. If you want a really great tattoo than check Jimmy out.

Currently i have two tattoos. Just some military symbols i took in the army so not really nothing worth showing.

I've been thinking about taking new, 'real' tattoo, or few. I'm too sorry Jimmy can't send them by mail

I have one between my shoulder blades that is a few years old I have plans for two more a celtic symbol and a little monkey for my daughter (her nick name is monk) they charge 1-2 hundred a hour but I got lucky the guy who did mine likes giving girls there first some sort of weirdness he has so I had 3 1/2 hours for 80. The ink my husband got took about the same time to do cost us 180. I have a rule I gave myself that they have to be somewhere that if I need to I can easily cover up so I don't offend people at work. I also have four gauged holes in each ear and am planning two more holes in each and both stapled. But as many people have said I have to wait for a little extra cash for all

I actually have the opposite rule, for me they need to be where they'll be seen the most otherwise what's the point. I kind of like having my tattoo front and center, people who turn their nose up at it give me an early warning sign that odds are they aren't the sort of person I care to hang around with anyways. Judging someone based on some art they put on their skin is pretty archaic, and to me is a sign of worse to come.

I run a adult family home so I an in contact with dr nurses and many many social workers so I cover up for work but do enjoy showing off when I am not at work the location is the only thing I regret I have to work to expose it my other two will be in much more visible places but still easily concealed. I have fun with my ears most people don't know I have anything in them and I have been asked if I would ever consider getting a hole in them I have to laugh and show them

I think it is still a stigma in the corporate world and unless you own that company it is something that a lot of people have to deal with. I use to work for a brokerage firm and one of the Reps basically had a full body suit of tattoos except those areas he could not cover with a his clothing just because he would have lost some of his clientele if they saw them.

Unfortunately you still have to play by other peoples rules in some areas of life. Luckily it seems social perception of tattoos in general is becoming more acceptable.

Ditto, I've always been a bit off center but figure if my tats get them all upity I don't need to deal with them. I even go so far as to let employers know about my tats even if I'm in long sleeves, if they don't like it they don't have to hire me and I don't have to deal with their crap about it
