We've had three briards. Two browns, one black, although the blackie, Tartu has been living with my daughter recently.
However one of our brownies, Lollero, got a cancer in its back, not so many months ago. At first it seemed to be ok, but for the last 3 or 4 weeks she could go on only with medics. Is it worth dogs life? Should we keep it for the dog itself or ourselves?
However. I was at work doing my 2 week service while my wifey called me that it has gone worse. That she's going to take it for the final service. It was ok. Still i felt bad. Couldn't sleep for few nights.
But now Lollero has no pains no more. Will be buried in our garden, under the rose bushes, just like those doggies that have passed away within times.

Here's a pic of those 3 together. From last summer:

And here's from the last hours, before the final needle. Pics taken by wifey. I was SO sorry i couldn't be there. I still feel lowsy but it was a right decision anyway. We should not selfishly think about ourselves.

We grieve for our animals with the same intensity, and sometimes more, as we do for a human close to our hearts. Each New Years Eve I light several 24 hr memorial candles. One each for my parents and one brother, one for all the friends I have lost and one for all the animals that have graced my heart and home with their unconditional love.

Giving them release and relief when they are suffering is the greatest comfort you can give them. Yes, it weighs heavy on our hearts to do it, but then they are at peace and not trying to figure out why they can't be as they were.

My condolences and remember the good times with them.

So sorry to hear your news - only those who know understand the loss we can feel at times like this.

Very sorry for your loss of Lorrero. Warm your heart with the memories. Your wife carried out the final responsibility we have to our beloved dogs and you can bet Lorrero carried all of her humans in her heart with her. Do not trouble yourself because you could not be there.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about the devoted beasts that I've been fortunate to share my life with. They give us their all, the least we can do is end any suffering at the end of their lives. The easiest for me are the dogs I've had that lived good long lives. The hardest are those that have been young and due to bad genetics have had to be put down prematurely because their bodies give up, (hip displysia, arthritic shoulders, etc...). We discovered that our first Rottie had hip displysia when I started him on Shutzhund at around 1.5 yrs old. Kept him going strong, no shutzhund, for 8.5 years. His body gave out but his mind was so strong. It depressed him not to be able to control his surroundings and he started to be in pain constantly so I decided it was time. That one has lasted the longest, emotionally. BUT I can't live without a dog next to me....... just can't and won't, they provide so much and constantly remind me of how life should be lived. Gotta go hug my dog!

    Thank you all,

We've had dog/dogs in our house almost constantly since the day i was born 5 decades ago. I've seen so many come and go and remember them all.
I've never understood humanizing dogs or other animals. But although just dogs, they are still dear family members, training buddies, servants and team members. It always feel bad to let one go but it is an important and essential decision we owe to our friends.
Better let go than to let them live life that's not worth living for pain and suffering.

So this is what goes on every day while we're at work!
As shown by the amount if hair in the couch, she is coming out of a shedding phase.
