Today has been rough. Artie, our beloved male Leonberger crossed over this morning. He was born in our home, and we picked one another before his eyes had opened. I've never bonded with a dog as intensely as with Artie.
I miss the big doofus.
Artie in his prime.
My wife is under there! That's Artie on her lap, and Juno standing by (she's crossed, too). When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It's difficult only for the others.
It's the same when you are stupid.

I am very sorry to hear about Artie passing. You folks will be in my thoughts. These are always heartbreaking affairs for those of us who truly come to love our dog's.

Regardless of the species their hold on our hearts is, and shall be, one of the wonders of the world. Often, waking in the middle of the night, I swear that my beloved cats (and one dog) are there, sleeping on my bed, as was their wont in life. The Universe is holding them dear to their heart, as do you.
