Aloha.
As we say in Hawaii, kala mai no ko oukou make ana.
(so very sorry for your loss).
Those that do not adopt a dog as their four legged child do not understand how deep the bond is and how devastating the loss can be. To many it is indeed like loosing your best friend and/or your child. I have gone through this loss many times as an adult and it never gets any easier. As I type this, I just picked up my beloved 15 year old Cocker Spaniel from the vet after a much needed tooth cleaning. She survived the anesthetic but is not in great shape yet. Hopefully she will bounch back, but she is a very senior dog, and my days are numbered with her company. I am dreading that day when the house is empty. I am hoping she will last three more years, but that is looking a bit too optimistic.
My sincere sympanties, Glen."I get some lather and lather-up, then I get my razor and shave! Zip Zop, see that? My face Is ripped to shreads!"

Having met Glen's furry child in person I know how hard this is on not only him but also his lovely bride. They really do become part of the family in more ways than one.
I'm very sorry to hear of this sad news my friend. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Glen would always cordon off the vicious, pampered doggos whenever I visited. Visitors are rare in his neck of the woods.

Same for when Tc and I visited and it was fully understandable.
Years ago when my wife and I first moved out in the country my wife drug home a German Shepard that she'd gotten from a local apple orchard owner. The house had a two rail split rail fence so the dog came and went from the yard at his leisure.
Any time someone pulled up he was quite vicious---to a point. For example one day I heard the dog raising hell and looked out and he was in the yard about 10 feet from the gate barking and baring his teeth to a local Sheriff Deputy who I knew quite well. I opened the door and told the deputy to come on in. He yelled back--"ROY! THE DOG"!
I said--just open the gate! When he did, the dog turned tail and dove under the porch where he stayed the whole time I talked to the deputy. He was brave as hell as long as people were on the other side of that gate but was big coward once that gate was opened.
I always got a big kick out of that dog!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 556When my son’s dog passed a few years ago, after a couple of weeks he observed, “we didn’t realize what slobs we were in the kitchen.” The dog did the floor cleanup.
Now that he has two new pups, the kitchen floor is clean, occasionally slobbery, but clean.David

Thanked: 227Alas no doggy here.
Had dogs as a kid growing up.
Hopefully getting into wildfowling this season, and hopefully next season looking at a working dog.
