Had a pe myself in the motor cross days, also had the rm 400. Roger DeVos yet could race them straight out the box and win, scary bike at times What a time. Then I try it with 800 pound bikes.

Folks are sleeping-in when they are shut-in these days, Roy! 9 should be purrrfect!
Tc, those RM400's were light switches. Most were skeered of them. DeCoster was 'The Man' on one back in the 'open class' days as he smoked lots of 500's.
These PE's are detuned versions for enduro racing but I think this pipe may have tuned this one up 'somewhat', though. McNasty!

Thanked: 2209OK guys, here is a link to a video I made today. It demonstrates what My Harley sounds like when I try to start it.
Tomorrow I will take off the primary cover and see if the gear/sprocket on the end of the starter jackshaft is stripped and if the teeth on the flywheel are stripped or ....?
Suggestions welcome.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

I've never had a problem with an electric starter on a bike, but from my experience with automobile starters--to me it sounds like the solenoid is bad and not shoving the shaft with the gear at the end forward to meet up with the flywheel to turn the bike over.
But there again------what do I know--Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 2209Current status ....
My 81 yr old biker friend in Wisconsin listened to this today and said to remove the primary cover and check the teeth on the jackshaft gear and the teeth on the flywheel/ring gear.
TC responded with a similar but more useful explanation.
Eric Molitor responded with the following

So what that sounds like to me is the starter Jack shaft bolt has come lose.
.
There is a sealing washer and lock tab that goes under the head of this bolt.
At times these can come lose, generally because they have been apart a time or 2 and not replaced.
If memory serves, the outer primary cover will need to come off. From there this can all be easily repaired.
Another thing I'd check first just in case, make certain the 2 starter bolts are tight. They are a bitch to get at but worth a check.
In theory yes. If this is the issue replace the seal washer with lock tab. Clean bolt threads well and use a dot of blue lock tite.
Seriously a dot

In theory Sorry for the poor art work
That is what I hear in your video. I've never came across ring gear or Jack shaft destroyed in a newer model like yours.
But that bolt being lose I have encountered
Behind the Jack shaft is a spring, bolt comes lose spring pushes Jack shaft away from starter= no start
