If I were an American resident, I would certainly be a gun nut!
Alas there is no Amendment II here in France. To bear any arm is strictly forbidden, you have a very limited right to self-defense. You can keep a gun but you must cope with pretty annoying procedures. In France, it is truly politically incorrect to be a gun rights advocate. You are seen as a freak. One will tell you all the clichés about the USA to justify this prohibition and conclude that "such rights are impossible in France because this is not in our culture!". This is pure bull****! I guess there are certainly many Frenchmen still alive nowadays that lived the times -until 1939- when you could freely order a gun from the Manufacture française d'Armes et de Cycles in Saint-Etienne (they also produced some straight razors!). Sorry for being off topic!
So, if I were allowed to, I would get a Desert Eagle .50 AE

Thanked: 335Shiloh Sharps #1 Sporter, #2 heavy bull barrel, .45-2.4": bad medicine for targets out to 1000 yards; for the close in targets it also could be a very convincing club.

My favorite (this week) is my Ithaca side-by-side 20ga but that's because it's dove season. It changes by the season . They are like kids, if it becomes obvious that one is the favorite, the others all get jealous.

Steel Angel and Meeme, if either one of you ever visit Nashville, I would be more than pleased to take you to the range for a day of shooting. Those of us in the US have difficulty understanding the lack of gun rights in other countries. We are fortunate to have the Second Amendment. Without the Bill of Rights I am sure we would find ourselves in the same situation.
