Protein!
For those of you iron freaks out there, what kind of protein supplement do you choke down every day on your way home from the gym?
Currently, I am using IronMind JustProtein, but the texture is horrific even if the taste is pretty good. (Well, pretty good for protein. most protein that I've had tastes like death warmed over)

I buy the 5 pound jug of GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein in chocolate. It's my favorite protein supplement on the market, and I've tried many.

Muscle milk is my favorite overall, next to Myoplex. The Myoplex is really expensive though and I found the muscle milk isn't too expensive and generally has a good taste for protein. I can't stand the generic GNC stuff, some of the protein powders on the market are absolutely disgusting imo... I mix it with low-fat milk usually to make my shakes, adds more protein and isn't as hideous as they sometimes turn out with water, normally thicker though so I usually put the powder in a shaker then fill with milk and shake
I like the newer shaker mugs that GNC has now too, with the little wire steel ball inside to do the mixing instead of the grids that never worked very well.

I tried a bunch of things, but my favorite is the Isopure protein (Choc. Shake). Great taste and consistancy when mixed with water, and 50g protein per serving with <1gram(s) of Carbs. The price is, if I remember correctly, just above muscle milk, but its definitely worth it. I tried Muscle Milk cookies 'n cream, but IMHO Isopure beats it on all levels for me.
[+1 on the GNC shaker cup, probably the best little gadget I've ever gotten]

A healthy individual only needs the amount of protein 75 grams (= 2.65 oz) of meat provide. If you do iron pumping it may be a bit more. All additional food protein is broken down by the body and used to fuel the metabolism or converted to fat and urea. Urea is a toxic substance the kidneys have to remove from the body.
SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF EATING MORE PROTEIN? Unless of course you take anabolic steroids...Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Thanked: 3795Chicken
Sardines

Milk
Artificial protein supplements are an ineffective waste of money.

When you work out, your body needs to rebuild your muscles with protein. Often strength trainers can't get the proper amount of protein without also taking in too many carbs or calories for the diets they've chosen. For me, I just don't get the amount of protein I need because of my eating habits. I never eat breakfast, occasionally skip lunch, and eat a regular dinner

Thanked: 3795Yes and no. There is cellular damage following heavy workouts but the need for extra protein is minimal. The damaged cells don't simply disappear--they either get repaired or recycled, so the need for extra nutritional protein is nowhere near as extreme as most bodybuilders imagine.
