Here are my comparisons of Bourbon & Ryes. I did this chart about a year ago and the prices are outdated and some are unavailable. I don't keep much variety on my bar these days. I have Buffalo Trace, Four Roses Single Barrel and try to keep WL Weller 12 yr when it's available. I haven't been able to find the Weller 12 for 6 months.

Here is a review I did for George T. Stagg a couple years ago.

    George T. Stagg Review

The gunfighter walked up to the bar for one last drink before he had to go out to meet the sheriff for the showdown. "Give me a shot of your best whisky" he said as he only had a few minutes before the clock struck 12:00 noon. The bartender grabbed the bottle of George T. Stagg fall 05 and poured a shot into the glass that spilled over the edge onto the bar. The gunfighter sipped about half his drink and wondered if he made a mistake as an upside down atomic bomb exploded in his belly.
Yes this is a bourbon for real men. It is bold and rich unlike any other I have tasted. It has a caramel and molasses nose and flavor that stays long after the sip. It is the bourbon that gunfighters, cowboys, and real men end up with at the end of the night.

I've tried Bulleit Bourbon. Maker's Mark is nice, but I'm currently a Knob Creek man.

Whiskey refers only to Scotch or Irish whiskeys while "whisky" is the stuff distilled in Kentucky and Tennessee as a barrell-prep for truly great whiskeys.

My favorites are: Lagavulin 16, smooth, rich, peatty goodness with lots of smoke, hints of sea salt and great earthy essences. Ardbeg 10, a veritable smokehouse of a scotch. This is a peat monster with a loooooooonnnnng and lasting finish. Dalwhinnie, wonderful high notes, crisp, clean ethereal stuff. And MacAllan 18.... Oh, this one is round, sweet, complex stuff that is very easy on the palate for novices and Scotch aficionados alike.

I normally keep it simple with either Jack Daniels or Jim Beam most of the time just on the rocks sometimes maybe with Coke.

The Wild Turkey Rare Breed is indeed good... for American whisky.

I prefer scotch whiskeys, last night I was enjoying some Dalwinnie 15, the night before it was MacAllan 18.
