Ah, yes... See - we know here what happens when only the royals get the guns - then only the citizenry "get" the bullets.
I will tell you that you can overload a repro LaMat - oh, and the chainfire- hoo! - emphais on "fire", there! Stopped a line of advancing re-eanctors cold. No one got hurt, but it was the last time I let anyone else do my loading!
I did fire a cap and ball at an event a number of years back - I rather liked it. My dad is big into muzzle-loading and other very old weaponry, so I get to have lots of fun when I visit him. There is something to be said for the smell of the powder. Smells like... Powder, really...

Thanked: 84Hi, Is it the Lemat the pistol that had a larger calibre barrel in the centre?
I cover the balls with tallow to stop chain-fire.

Yes, indeed. It's basically a shotgun load in a way. I would love to have a real one, but jumping cats - I'm not made of money!

nothing highlights the ignorance surrounding firearms like the fact that a
cap n ball isn't considered one
ridiculous, simply ridiculous

I have a Ruger Vaquero, SS 5 1/2" in .45 Colt. Works nice for calling coyotes in close. I use a 1911 more often, I think it's easier to pack along. The Vaquero might be more accurate though. It's the older Vaquero without the added "cylinder alignment" feature.

Most places around here will not let me shoot my contenderes or the Encore. Seems they think I'll bring down small planes with it... Some will not let a 44mag on line, grrr smallest thing I got ammo for it bigger than that

Thanked: 84You could fire almost any pistol calibre in my club,BUT, It had to be lead or linotype (spelling?) bullets and loaded down to a certain energy, I can't remember what though.
Everyone would smirk when you came out of the range if you made the steel door rattle with your hot homeloads They were a good bunch of guys (and girls)
I used to go to a club a little further West than Swansea as a "guest" and you could use ANYTHING legal in the UK
50 cal whatever, as big as you like, rifle calibre too! Shame it was only a 100yd range
The MOD (ministry of defence) gives our ranges their certificates, and they are really great at working out what is safe. They are very fair too
For long range stuff we used to go to the MOD ranges in Brecon. You can only use FMJ stuff up there but that is so the target system isn't damaged by big flat lumps of lead. Those ranges go out to about 1000yds.
It is a bit of a song and dance to get on the range, but I have had some really nice summer days shooting up there, picknics too on the line.

G'day all,
just thought I would toss a pic in of some of my hardware. My real love is blackpowder, but I shoot service and centerfire regularly to keep my license up. There are some nice pieces in the preceding posts. Good on you blokes. The webley is nice, I have one the same, was carried by the CO in charge of the armoured train operating out of Archangel during the 1917 revolution. Has knocked a few bolshies. Was given to me on my 21st birthdayby the late nephew who was a very old family friend. It is a great shooter to.
Cheers
