Thread: When I'm not Shaving....

I haven't had the opportunity to try it out, but if I had to say, I would say yes
I'm actually planning on smoothing out the opening I made in the exhaust because it's pushing obnoxious loud. I have no doubts it would wake people up. The good news is that it purrs like a mountain lion at cruising speeds. I don't think I could take something that loud for extended periods.

Thanked: 234I wear ear plugs these days on long rides, really anything over 15 mins and I need to either wear proper ear plugs or listen to music, other wise it's uncomfortably loud. All good fun though!

I'd love to get some music going on my longer rides, but just short of strapping a boom box to my tank, I'm not sure how to go about it. I tried earbuds, but they wouldn't fit in my helmet. It's nice sometimes, but it does get boring listening to the wind most of the time.

Here's my daily ride. We can ride year round in the desert, but it sure is hot in the summer.

Thanked: 234I use the cheapo apple ones that came with my ipod, they're quite sleek and I have no problems fitting them. I ride with out music quite often, esp if im with other people. On my commute and long boring rides on the motorway though, there's no way I would go back to just wind noise I don't think.
I don't imagine you see many other VFRs do you? They're quite popular over here, good bikes. Strong motor. the V4 is different as well.
When I was in LV last august though I didn't ride, I wasn't surprised people were riding round in little more than shorts and a t-shirt!

My helmet is super tight around the ears and makes it impossible to fit even the apple ones in there. I might be able to make them work with a lot of trial and error, but taking the helmet off gets really painful.
If you mean Las Vegas...or anywhere in the US really...we don't exactly have the most intelligent riders on the road. It's nothing to see some fraternity boy on a ricer doing 70 in a polo, shorts, and flip flops. The only time I go with anything less than armor, I'm typically tooling up the street at about 35 mph in low/no traffic.

Thanked: 234Fair enough, my skid lid is 3 and a half years old now and is ready for a change, it's probably much looser than it 'should' be.
It's quite unusual round here for people not to be riding in kit, most people wear at least gloves, boots, jacket and lid. Jeans aren't uncommon though. I have kevlar jeans now.
A mate of mine wears an open face lid, vest, sweat pants, trainers and welding gloves lol. The blokes a complete nutter, really nice bloke but can't be talked into wearing kit. He rides a super charged fat boy with a 110" S&S in it. Mental bike.
In the heat of Las Vegas in summer, I think if you wore much more than the essentials you would get dangerously uncomfortable.
I dunno if I mentioned it in this thread but I'm spending 6 months riding around the states next year, should be good.Last edited by gregs656; 03-31-2009 at 04:57 PM.

The VFR isn't as common out here as some of the other bikes but I do see them now and then. They're great bikes.
I see folks out here (Arizona) riding in short sleeves all the time but I can't fathom it. In the summer the wind is hot. It'll cook you. It's much better to stay covered. Mesh jackets are very popular here, but I prefer perforated leather. I wear all the gear all the time and it's pretty miserable, in 100+ degree temps to be stuck at a light or in slow traffic but when I'm moving it's not too bad. I don't ride much for pleasure in the summer months, though - strictly commuting.

Thanked: 234I have one of those mesh jackets, I bought it two summers ago, used it all the time, then the following two were crap! I live in the sunniest part of the UK as well lol.
That's more or less the opposite of the seasons here, for the last 3 years I've been bike only, and you don't see many bikes out in the winter. In the summer though, they all come out of hiding once again. It's not uncommon for Harley Davidson to SELL OUT of their oil this time of year, as all the tassle tractors do their yearly oil change on mass lol.
I do love my bike though, I don't think I will ever be with out one.

I bought a mesh Shift Airborne jacket for the humid 100 degree summers we get here and I couldn't be happier with it. It's got great construction and CE armor.
