    Default Question

Is it true that it is illegal to put mufflers on bikes?

It's illegal to not have a muffler.

I have a 1983 Suzuki GS650L at home, in my parents barn. I got it for free because the previous owner, my best friends' wife's grandfather passed away and no one in the family had any interest. It had been sitting in his garage for about 10+ years. I got it home and cleaned it up. I don't really know anything about bikes, so I look at this as a project/first bike. I took the tank off, drained it and cleaned it up. Everything seems to be intact and in decent shape. I don't have any pics with me, though. Unfortunately, I'm living in Canada now, and don't have a way to get my bike here, yet. Any other vintage Suzuki folks out there?
Here's a pic of a cleaned up, possibly restored version, in the same colors. I don't have a rack on the back, though:

That's a great project bike! Just get a service manual and let the education commence. It should be a great rider once you get it all cleaned up and ship shape.

Thanks! From everything I've heard, the shaft drive bikes are near bomb-proof, and more balanced than some of the chain-drive models. I'm looking forward to it!

I've had a few brief forays into shaft drives (even owned one, not for very long though) it makes interesting riding. The weirdest thing is their tendency to lean the bike over when you accelerate, but you get used to that.

They have a reputation for being very low maintenance, but I'd a little search on t'internet and see what comes up for your particular bike, some are better than others. On the bike I had they had a reputation for rusting from the inside out
