If Lance (he was still huge at the time) wanted to ride a Litespeed, he'd have to buy one."
    I was told that Lance rode Litespeeds and I googled this ;

    Armstrong Wins Using Litespeed Bike

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (AP) -- A little bike company near Chattanooga secretly shared in Lance Armstrong's triumph in Paris at the Tour De France on Sunday.

The 60 employees at Litespeed Titanium Components know that Armstrong actually rides their bikes, despite the Trek logo that is painted on them.

Trek is the official sponsor of the U.S. Postal Service team. Since Armstrong prefers bikes from Litespeed, Trek purchases them at $6,000 each for him.

They are quite a bike. Mine is a 2001Vortex and in really great shape. Got an outstanding deal on it. The original owner paid more for the wheels then I did for the complete bicycle.

That is interesting, Jimmy. I guess it does sort of fall in line with my general point, that even the pros have to shell out the dough. But, if I'm not mistaken, Lance did switch to real Treks, at least by the time they started rolling out carbon fiber.

You were fortunate to catch a deal on your Litespeed. I still wish I'd been able to pick up an older model or floor model while I was at the shop, but back then I was in high school and really didn't have the cash to spare. I was more into mountain biking at the time, anyhow, and my big buy during high school was to redo my drivetrain XT/RaceFace style.

    forgot to add:

it's a 1979 Yamaha XS11 Frankenbike (parts from xs11 standard and special mixed. prolly will have leftover parts from my truck once i'm done fixing it )

fun trivia: the xs1100 was the first superbike yamaha ever made, way back in 1978. once I get it running I'm going for the full on survivalbike mod. (motor comes first, then i'll worry about cosmetic stuff)

for those of you not privvy to the wonders of the survivalbike genre:

basically, make it look like something from a mad max film. should be fun!

Rich The seat is a Mustang that came already studded and then I bought the bags made by boss, I got model 36cs1 bags , I looked at all kinds of bags but these are definitly the best I have seen. I wanted an old school that is why I went with the studs and conchos, normally when I do things I go very plain, So the studs and conchos is a bit out of character for me, but I got used to the look and I like it a lot .

Yes Lance did go with the all carbon fiber Treks after '99 or whatever it was.

I love off road bicycling too. I have been laying off it because of tendinitis in the elbow. Even with a suspension fork those log overs beat up my elbows. I love the road too though so it is cool as long as I am getting some saddle time on one or the other.

Surprised to see an XS in this thread. Fine bikes though, still have a good repuatation all these years later.

I personally ride a TRX850, which you guys in the states never got.

Been riding since I was 16, so over three years. I'm in the states for 6 months on a bike next year!

That's cool. Looks like a pre-FZ1 (which I fell in love with when they were introduced).

I'm working on making my naked bike more naked. This is how she looks right now, but will soon be back together with a custom intake I built last night. It completely eliminates the airbox and gives it a mean look. I also have chopped the hell out of the stock license plate holder so it doesn't look stupid. I'm going for mean cafe racer
