    Default Balut(not a thread for the squeemish)

    So I was just sitting down to my mid-afternoon snack


    and I was wondering if anyone else has a taste for strange food. If so what kind?

    Never could stomach the idea! In the Philippines in Olongapo city vendors would go up and down Magsaysay and Rizal street singing "Baaluut...Baaluut" and invariably there would be a drunk sailor behind him yelling "Chicken abortion...Chicken abortion" in the same cadence.
    I ate some interesting stuff while in P.I. but Balut was not among them!

    It's actually quite delicious, it tastes like a mixture of chicken(cliche I know)and hardboiled egg.

    Kanahmal where are you from? and who turned you on to Balut ? I have to say I dont think I could eat that if you gave me a thousand dollars.

    JMS, I have the same sentiment. 4 years in and out of the P. I. (as well as most of Asia) trying things I've never heard of before, I drew the line at balut. When those kids would come pedaling as you mentioned I'd say "hindi balut" (no balut).
