    Default Breakfasts that kill

    I find it pretty common in North America to have giant breakfasts on weekends. "American Style" generally means a lot of meat, starch and eggs (at least two, often more). These are also terribly unhealthy and would probably kill us if we ate like this every day.

    But I love them, and probably eat them far to frequently. I have several favorites which I'll gladly share with you;

    Steak & Eggs-Here's a really good one if the steak is rare enough and is fried in a bit of bacon fat. The best accomniment to this is my special hash brown potatos (home fries I find quite unappealing for some reason). For me, Hash browns are grated potato with diced onion and jalepeno peppers mixed in, then pressed into a giant latke and fried in a skillet untill crispy on the outside. Oh that's good stuff!

    Bacon & Eggs- Nothing need be said about this except it goes best with grits and hot sauce on the (fried) eggs

    Chorizo & Eggs- For those of you not familiar with Mexican Chorizo, it's nothing like the Spanish or Portugese version. Mexican chorizo is like salsa made entirely of head cheese. For those of you from the Carolinas, imagine spicy scrapple (without the cornmeal) in a tube. This is fried with some onion and jalepeno and then dumped on a tortilla (flour or corn) and then a couple'a fried eggs placed on top.

    Yes, it's a good thing I don't eat from this menu too often, but I do love breaking my morning fast with something that makes me want to take a nap afterwards.

    Anyone else have a favorite "Hungry man's" breakfast?

    Waffles and sausage and syrup (yes, syrup counts as a third entree in this equation!).

    Biscuits and gravy and eggs. Oh, biscuits.... mmmm....

    I think it would not kill us to eat this every day if we were still farmers. I know some surfers who eat like this every day. They're neither dead nor fat. But I imagine they'd be more popular targets if the sharks knew they came pre-stuffed like that...

    In Las Vegas, buffets are king. It's whatever you want and the spreads are quite nice.....many include champagne. Since moving here I've gotten away from what I would make for a hungry man breakfast on the weekend.

    Pancakes, eggs, sausage and potatoes. Easy to whip up. Steak if it was available. Biscuits and gravy are great, but I'm no gravy master I like grits, but I'm not from the south. Scrapple was another favorite of mine. They laugh out west when that word comes up.

    When I lived out east and had to work on a Saturday, it was 3 Taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwiches with salt, pepper and ketchup. Around 9:30 or so I could feel the arteries hardening.

    Bacon and eggs? You forgot the British sausages, Black (Blood) pudding, fried bread, baked beans, mushrooms and fried tomatoes that go with the bacon and eggs! Those and a large pot of tea!

    Now that's a heart attack on a plate...

    Oh, if we're going to go all international! I dated a German and I think his mother was trying to kill me with breakfasts of leftover spaetzele, fried eggs, weisswurst, and pastries. Served up with seemingly weak coffee which caused palpitations...

    I guess she only knew you are american! LOL

    A sunday breakfast should have one semi boiled egg, butter, three fresh roll sandwiches with three different sorts of cheese, marmelade and thin sliced sausage. Orange juice and tea or coffee.

    The so- called "english breakfast" knows no tradition in my country. Except at my place... I often cook this when I have a bit of spare time in the morning (and, please, interpret this "bit" of spare time as the whole morning). I fry some bacon, scrambled eggs, fry slices of bread, mushrooms, tomatoes, the whole lot... the only absent thing is the black pudding. You simply cannot find this in Portugal. We do have a tradition of foods that have blood in them, but nothing in the form of a pudding. I top that with fresh orange juice, and an enourmous ammout of tea. But I find this not to be very aggresive if you eat normal portions... 1 egg, slices of bacon, 1 whole tomato... And if you eat a light lunch, have your afternoon tea and have a light dinner, this sort of breakfast will not be your death. It's greasy, but it will give you plenty of energy to face your working day. Too bad that cooking it and cleaning up afterwards will take up your entire working day! I wish I had someone to cook me a full english breakfast everyday... and clean the kitchen after that!

    I'm not even sure what the traditional portuguese breakfast is... but I'm pretty sure that the so-called "tired horse's soups" is part of it: it's a mixture of bread, honey and wine in a bowl, as if it was a plate of soup. Never had any... never will! No wonder we are so underdeveloped...

    Yes, that's exactly right, lol.

    My normal breakfast is bread and cheese with a pot of coffee, but lazy mornings bring out the short order cook in me, and I like to make breakfast for everyone. Pancakes for the kids, and whatever special orders there are for the adults. It ends up being a pretty energetic lazy morning at that, eh?

    BEC/SEC - Bacon (or sausage), egg, and chese sandwich
    French toast or pancakes with bacon and eggs
    Bacon and cheese omelette with homefries/hash browns
